wildcard
At least on report says: the Red Sox requested permission to speak with Baltimore Orioles executive Sig Mejdal, the brilliant analytics expert who helped build the St. Louis Cardinals, later contributed to the current Houston Astros dynastic run before joining the Orioles with GM Mike Elias. But the Orioles, perhaps fearful of losing a key front office mind to a division rival, dragged their feet on the process and never provided the Sox with the go-ahead to speak with Mejdal. https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/10/mlb-notebook-inside-the-job-search-that-landed-craig-breslow-with-red-sox-mcadam.html Edited October 28, 2023 by wildcard

ShoelesJoe
Hopefully this doesn't turn into a "history repeats itself" situation ala Dan Duquette in 2015. Edited October 28, 2023 by ShoelesJoe

Bird Lady
My impression is that Elias and Sig are longtime friends, so I assume Elias followed Sig's wishes regarding the Red Sox.

Protocol would dictate the request first go to the top baseball guy, but we all know that Angelos would ultimately make the final decision. Maybe a new title and pay raise would be a good idea or the O's/Angelos could try the "let's punish one of our employees for getting a good opportunity." Why would Sig need Elias to do that? Couldn't he have just said "I'm not interested?"
