Hopefully, that finally resolves one ridiculous embarrassment.  Now, address all of the others, like the stadium lease, sale/ownership rumors, and being a tightfisted, miserly cheapskate.

Pretty wild that two out of the four issues you listed may have been unofficially resolved tonight. Which would potentially indicate momentum on the sale/ownership front, and then hopefully long-term financial investment in the players on the field.

What can I say, I'd rather be optimistic than not.

Yeah, those things are clearly all related at some level and, yes, we all hope the nightmare will soon end.  Fingers crossed.

It's like JA has gone into overdrive grabbing every dollar he can.  Like a robber trying to get every last dollar he can before he runs out the door.  I think something is in the works soon, JA and media denials be damned.

What this means is that, out of public view, there has been an arbitration regarding the rights fees for 2017-21.   The previous one, covering 2012-16, was the one that was litigated to death for almost a decade.   The stipulation to confirm the award signifies that neither party plans to contest this arbitration award covering the latter period.   The amount is very similar to the previous period.

Either party can still contest any arbitration award covering any later period.  In theory, an arbitration covering 2022-26 (or just an agreement between the parties) already should have happened.   Maybe it has, and the public hadn’t been told.  The methodology to determine rights fees going forward seems pretty well settled now.  So maybe this really is about over now.

So am I correct to conclude that the Nationals were getting (well supposed to at least) 60m a year for their 25% (give or take) portion of the rights fees during that period from 2012-2016?

The Nats and O’s get equal rights fees. For 2012-16, that turned out to be about $59 mm per year for each team.  For 2017-21, it was around $70 mm per year on average, except that in the 2020 short season it was $27 mm.

If there are profits remaining after the rights fees are paid, the O’s get about 75% of the profits.  That percentage is dropping by 1% every year until it bottoms out at 67%.  You can’t tell from reading this decision what profits MASN has made during 2017-21.
