Brandon Hyde 2024

I don't like a lot of Hyde's decisions but I don't have a problem with anything he did this series. Ramon Urias getting a bad read and not scoring from 2nd yesterday on a single. Cowser swinging on a would-be RBI HBP. Jordan Westburg throwing to the wrong base. None of these are on Hyde. We could use Bobby Dickerson back though to teach some fundamentals.

You don’t let Cowser bat in a bases loaded pressure situation against a LHP.

Did the team look prepared?  Did the team look motivated?  Did the team look confident?  Did the team look like they thought they would win?   Who is to blame for that?

I think he'll spend but I think he'll ramp it up over time and not have a blowout off-season like the mets with what's his name did

He should emulate the Padres. Spend big on some free agents.. if it doesn’t work…sell them off

I know there is a lot of emotion and kneejerk reaction in this thread but I think the calls to move on from Hyde have merit.

While he doesn’t swing the bat, the team has looked lifeless for months. I must admit with leaving Cowser in when he looked completely lost in all 3x at bats was egregious.

at the end of the day the manager lives and dies by there record on the field and 0-5 in the playoffs and sub 500 in the second half may be enough for a new voice in the clubhouse.

Just to recap what I’ve been saying the last three months, fire the entire coaching staff. Including Hyde. The preparation and effort they showed the last two days is a perfect representation of the last three months. That’s without even getting into the lack of strategic decision making that Hyde has shown. We’re starting to look a lot like the Blue Jays of a few years ago. Firing the coaching staff is the only way to reverse the course. If I’m David, Elias is on thin ice as well.

He didn’t have McCann bunt in the 3rd inning yesterday. Didn’t PH for him in the 5th. Admitted that he let Burnes make the choice to pitch to Witt yesterday (which scored the game winning run).

Then today, he doesn’t PH for Cowser in with the bases loaded against a LHP. He has his best reliever throw 0.2 IP and then brings in Perez (who had a 4.50+ ERA on the season and a 9 ERA in September) in the biggest shutdown inning of the season.

More than just those decisions, something is severely messed up in that clubhouse based on how they have performed in pressure situations. He can’t make them hit, but he also let their mindset/pressure handling completely snowball. That’s his clubhouse and they were completely lost the last 3 months and in this series. He’s also 0-5 in the playoffs. Results matter at the end of the day and he hasn’t won a single playoff game in 2 years and just got swept at home by an 86 win team. That’s not good enough whether you want to admit it or not.

I wanted to stop reading at McCann bunting.  If you think McCann can bunt, that's hilarious.

Results matter...yeah, you're too busy not noticing that every practically every string he pulled today for the bullpen worked.  Westburg not having the presence of mind to flip the ball to Gunnar at 2nd base instead of making the idiot decision to try and get the fastest runner in the game at first was what allowed that 2nd run.  Cano got a grounder, he did his job.

I'll take a team allowing one run and two runs across two games every time.  Every.  Single.  Time.

You can jump up and down and blame Hyde all you want.  He's not the problem.

What are you talking about?  McCann is the second best bunter on the team after Cedric.

If the pitching is because of him, how come the hitting isn’t because of him?

McCann had 3 sac bunts last year, 3rd most on the team. So he could bunt last year, but thinking he could do it yesterday is hilarious?

His bullpen management was fine and you’re right that it’s on the offense, not on him. But again, Perez gave up the winning run today. He had a 9 ERA in September. Is he the guy you want to bring in for the biggest shutdown inning of the season? Most likely not. You probably want Coulombe who only threw 11 pitches.

And even if you don’t blame him for strategic decisions which is completely fair, I think most would agree he’s a players manager no? They have looked completely lost for 3 months. I don’t think he lost the clubhouse per se, but there’s something wrong there that he couldn’t figure out. That’s his clubhouse.

This team needs a Frank Robinson - the problem is he's not out there. I remember what Frank did for a young '66 team. We yell play the youngsters, but it takes more. This team has some young offensive potential and also needs more pitching - but pitching didn't cost us where we are right now. Our offense needs to be rebuilt and for starters, I don't want to ever see Gunnar hitting leadoff again. Chicks may dig the homer but I like the hitter who takes a good competative at bat most every time. I'm tired of watching players swing at pitches a foot or more outside or in the dirt. It's fitting our seaason ended with Gunnar wiffing at such a ball.

There is a guy that fits.  It’s Soto. They will never make the commitment, but they should.  Trade him if the team sucks. He is young enough that you will be able to.

that's the only guy that jumps out when I look at off-season free agents. that would be huge.
