Sure, but bypassing Cal for Jeter if you are cancelling A-Rod gets it 20 wins wrong.    I think Jeter 15 years younger, championships + NY media just put him in the frame of reference.

There probably isn't any organizational benefit to quizzing Gunnar on Cal's career, and of course we can't rule out Boras prepared him well at "act distant" for the long term negotiation.
