I was a little surprised we didn’t name a starter for 2nd game tomorrow.  Even with a trade I doubt it a guy that could get here for start anyway.  Povich just pitched so not a lot of choices unless they working on deal with McDermott and other team doesn’t want him pitching for some reason.

Yes as a platoon type guy not a full time starter to take away at bats from Kjerstad and Cowser.  Doyle hits right handers just as good as lefties.  They want a right handed bat that can hit lefties and are comfortable playing center, they clearly were not with Hays playing center with his slowing speed.    You don’t trade Hays to get those guys at bats then bring another guy that will take even more.

That's why you get guys that can strike guys out.  Lot harder to screw up a strikeout.

I think his stuff plays up as a reliever. I think he'd be a good option out of the pen

That’s entirely possible, and I’d sure like to get a better starter with more track record, but if it worked for the bad defense, he would easily have completed five innings, and given up two fewer runs too.

I checked, Povich hasn't pitched since the 24th with Norfolk.  Hopefully he's better than last time we saw him.

I would love for Suarez to basically replace Irvin as the long man. One more starter acquisition could make that a reality.

He didn’t pitch particularly well.  The team made some mistakes, but also a couple of great plays behind him.

Don’t disagree with that, I’m just pointing out that if the defense behind them in that inning had been clean, he would’ve finished the inning.

He has obviously been trending down over his last several starts, I don’t know whether the clock struck midnight or he’s getting tired, but he’s definitely getting worse.

      I think a lot of the problem is that the hitters trained on the ABS system are falling behind in the count because pitches that are outside the strike zone are being called strikes. Having a count go 1-1 instead of 2-0 is huge for a hitter.

      I've certainly seen a LOT of called strike threes taken on balls in the middle of the plate, which is perplexing.   Sure, you can be looking fastball and be frozen by a breaking ball, but with two strikes you just can't do it.   Once again this is just eye test, general impression, but it sure seems to happen to us too much lately.

      In the beginning of the year the team had the best hitting team in baseball but were never walking and near the bottom.  There was lots of complaining about how they don’t walk enough to be a better lineup.  The second half of the year they are near the top of the league in walks and there hitting has fallen off.  You would think with more walks and taking pitches they would be hitting better.  Are they walking to much and not being aggressive like they were earlier in the year?

      The capacity situation is affected by 3 trends, I believes:    -- newer stadiums being built tend to have fewer have fewer seats (and OPACY is now one of the 10 oldest ballparks in the major leagues)    -- stadiummodifications usually result in capacity going down:   for bigger playing field (like Baltimore), or for more club/luxury seating or entertainment areas replacing denser regular seating areas)    -- some teams just deciding never to sell some seats so I guess they no longer count in capacity (like that entire top deck in the outfield in Oakland).   I mean, I'm sure they could FIT way more than 25K humans comfortably in the Trop, they obviously have some seating areas they just bother to print tickets for and sell because they know they'll never sell them, so I guess that doesn't count in capacity.   Now at Oriole Park they only sell the LF upper deck seats these days when a big crowd is expected... but those seats still count towards capacity even in games where they choose not to make them available.
