O's @ Yankees Series, June 18-20 (Tues-Thurs)

Provided the O's win tomorrow and even better if the Yankees lose tomorrow, the O's will be within range of the division lead.

The players are focused on tomorrow's game, but I figured I would take a look ahead at the series.

The good:  O's don't have to face Gil or Rodon.  Gil pitched Friday, but Gil seems to have been given extra rest or Yankees are going to 6 man rotation?  O's offense has been resurgent lately and the coldest bats in May are some of the hottest like Santander and Urias and Hays(maybe?).  Gunnar and Adley continue to dependable cogs of the offense.

The bad:  Judge has just been mashing the ball since the O's/Yankees early season meeting.  Soto is healthy after the forearm soreness.  Some guy the Yankees signed as a depth move, Cody Poteet, who had a 19-39 minor league record, now has a ERA barely over 2 in limited action.  Poteet is Tuesday's starter.  Cole had 10 K's in 4 1/3 innings in his last rehab start and is likely Wednesday's starter.  Yankees barely have any injuries.

The ugly:  The state of the O's bullpen compared to the teams' first meeting.  Danny Coulombe, maybe our best reliever was a huge loss.  Not having Bradish for Thursday game is huge. 

Winning 2 of 3 would be great.  Realistically, I would be happy if the O's don't get swept.

Tuesday:   Suarez (3-0, 1.61 ERA)  vs Poteet (3-0, 2.14 ERA)

Wednesday:  Povich (0-1, 4,76 ERA) vs Undecided (Cole?) 0-0

Thursday:  Irvin (6-3, 3.03 ERA) vs Cortes (3-5, 3.59 ERA)

Gotta beat the best if you want to be the best. Hoping for a series win but it’s a hard series to predict considering they’re so evenly matched.

It's rather ironic that in the biggest series, we pitch our preseason 7-8-9 starters against the Skankees. So far so good with our deep depth in the rotation. What a coup it would be to take the series that way!

The Yankees are on a run this season so far . But please remember All Star break is few weeks away and it’s long season .  How many times has history showed teams collapse in second half  ?

If you had told me this would be the matchup in early April, I would say the O's would lose every game by an average of 10-3.  So funny that it looks competitive.

Well hopefully it's the Yankees that collapse and not the O's.  The Yankees have a high number of older and injury prone players.  Their injury luck is the equivalent of winning the jackpot on back to back days.  Just the chance of Rodon and Judge staying healthy on the same season has to be like 2%.

I’m with you on that outcome . I was making a case that we shouldn’t fear the Yankees surprising start . You made a good point about their luck avoiding injury bug while we got bit by injuries already .  Will Yankees continue avoiding injury bites in second half ?   We see if your injury bug will visit Yankees clubhouse

Yikes, they really went with Suarez Povich Irvin? I guess that is due to the Bradish injury but they could have gone with Grayson on four days rest. Oh well, hope for the best. 2 of 3 would be a nice outcome.

Povich v. Cole has to be a reverse lock. 

Suarez v. Poteet ought to be a good match up for the Os.

I like Irvin in the matchup of crafty lefties.

Weird negative vibe in here. I’ve been waiting for our chance with the MFY. I think we win at least 2. Soto and Judge is a brutal back to back, but that’s basically their whole team. I’m glad to see our guys get challenged with these Yankees and Phillies series.

Really not worried about the pitching matchups. It’s about our lineup being able to string together good at bats and put up some crooked numbers.

I think the Bradish thing has left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths even with the win yesterday.

Not really. We’ve been able to be productive vs good pitchers, and be crap against bad ones.
