Not advocating it but it could be reasonable to send Cowser back down. This would ensure Kjerstad is playing and Cowser could work a few things with daily starts. That would also leave Maton available for a Mayo call up.

Going into the season I figured Kjerstad and Cowser would alternate between MLB and AAA to keep them both getting reps. Kjerstad deserves an opportunity.

Maton was just a temp move while Westburg was banged up. Remember we had been rotating Ljerstad and Stowers through AAA/MLB to keep them getting regular ABs.

Really a vet RH OF that can play CF fits this role much better. If Daniel Johnson were RH he’d be up. If Daz Cameron were still here, he’d be up.

Heston had 3 HBP on 3 consecutive pitches in yesterday's game. Has to be some sort of record.

And then getting ejected after getting hit by a pitch 3x is almost certainly something that has never happened before.

You know if SIGBOT's new forecast is all its rookie candidates have surely failed vs. Luis Gil, Wyatt Langford and Ceddanne Rafaela, a nice thing about having two of something is you can use each half a season and then they enter 2025 under 1.000 year of service.

Honestly it might be completely irresponsible for a club not to maximize an asset, and Kjerstad might not have the same glaring vulnerability to curves and changes.   With Mullins, Santander and the Ryans holding 4 positions, LF it is Kjerstad as well as Cowser challenging for Austin Hays' old job.     Both Cowser and Kjerstad can use everyday play practicing their life mastery of the game of baseball.

What happened with this whole thing?  Kjerstad was hit on three straight at bats but got ejected?

Glad he's back, but the revolving prospect roster spot (Holliday, Kjerstad, Stowers, Norby, Kjerstad again) is not really making a big impact on the club.

Still, it's nice they are trying to get each guy some time - it's kind of the best they can do right now. Bit surprised it's not Mayo though.

Same. A RHB is a bigger need for the lineup at the moment. If Kjerstad is going to be up then they need to give him at bats weekly instead of using him like  Benny Ayala back in the day.

I'll be interested to see if he starts tonight over Cowser against Bibee, who dominates with offspeed but has a bad fastball.

They'll play him tonite, IIRC they play all the call-ups the first day they're up...or in this case, back up...and then he'll sit until the weekend or something.

So now how much does he play?  Is he taking time away from Cowser or the vets?

Hays should pretty much never play against RHP’s. It should be Mullins AB’s he is eating into but we will see.

I’m pretty interested to see how he does if he gets regular playing time though, both offensively and defensively. In his very SSS so far, he has chase and whiff rates over 37%. No qualified MLB hitter is over 37% in each category and nobody is really even close.

Kjerstad does bring the ability to hit both righties and lefties. So I'm thinking it'll be at the expense of Cowser and a little bit of the vets.

Against righties

  • LF: Cowser/Kjerstad
  • CF: Mullins
  • RF: Santander/Kjerstad

Against lefties

  • LF: Kjerstad
  • CF: Hays
  • RF: Santander

    • Holliday went 1 for 2 with 3 walks on Friday night. 2024: .444 OBP, .911 OPS MiLB Career: .447 OBP, .931 OPS His OBP is EXACTLY what this O's team needs, would fill a key offensive weakness at 2nd base, help grind opposing pitching, and magnify the power up and down the lineup.  It's all dependent on his ability to throw and play 2B at a passable level. If Holliday starts to hit at the ML level, the question of who bats leadoff is over for the foreseeable future and we can go back to complaining about 1 slumping hitter or backup catcher at the bottom of the lineup.
    • This. We literally have no lineup holes right now, and Mayo, Norby, Jax lurk. Any trade discussion should center around the four most essential and crucial elements to O's success for the balance of the regular season and playoffs: 1. pitching 2. pitching 3. pitching 4. damn, forgot the 4th one. oh yeah, its pitching.
    • All I know is that Suárez has earned at least one more start, after today.
    • Scherzer still looks like a guy who would be a nice add to our rotation in the second half if the Rangers are sellers.
    • Not happening. I don’t disagree, but Kremer will be slotted in the rotation.
    • I wouldn’t either but the word here is that he’s going back to rotation . Suarez supposedly the one  to be moved to bullpen . I think they should wait and see if Irvin can rebound . If Irvin can’t match Suarez’s work, then he should be moved to bullpen
    • Yes that’s what I was asking. COC was completely off base in his comment. Judge is a great player, and apparently a nice guy. I have nothing against him, or most Yankees, for that matter, though Gil’s tats are off putting. I am expecting a bit of pro Yankee bias, but that’s ok. Also, home runs is a very glittery stat, and might sway some folks. But it should be Gunnar, at least based on the first 81.
