Reed Trimble 2024

Reed Who?  That’s right.  Our 2nd 2nd round pick in the 2021 draft with a grand total of 71 minor league games played coming into this season is finally starting to show why they picked him.    He started the year with Aberdeen and almost immediately went down with a hamstring issue.  It’s been one thing after another with the biggest injury being a torn labrum to his non throwing shoulder back in 2021-22.

Tonight, batting 3rd for the Ironbirds the just turned 24 yo, batted 3rd and played CF, went 3-4, with 2 triples, 1 walk, and 4 RBI.

In 67 PA he’s now batting .321 with a 1.018 OPS.  5 doubles, 3 triples, 1 homer, 12 walks, 9 strikeouts, perfect on 9 stolen base attempts.

Reed, welcome back to the fight and continued good health.

Yeah, I'd love to see what he can do if he can stay on the field.  I know the team was high on him when they drafted him, another kind of toolsy guy.

24 years old so I think if he has a good 1st half you gotta push him to Bowie even with the limited ABs.

Nice to see him hitting well and obviously healthy. Plus he's showing a little extra base pop which was something that was always missing from him in pro ball. Certainly worth keeping an eye on him and seeing how fast they will get him to more age appropriate players in AA.

Looks like Trimble hasn't played since August 21. Yet another injury?

Yes, he on the 7-day IL once again. He had a hamstring injury earlier in the year and was taken out after line drive single into the outfield so perhaps he tweaked it again? It was hard to say because he was standing there at first base talking to the first base coach and then they pinch ran for him.

He had never played more than 33-games in a season until this year when he played 54 games in a row before getting hurt. Unfortunately he's just one of those fragile guys.

Hopefully it's nothing serious and will be back soon. He was becoming interesting.

Trimble, Rhodes, and Burnes, have all missed, and I believe we from the same draft. 🤦‍♂️

Burns was a 6th-round pick, I wouldn't necessarily call that a miss.  And Trimble looks like he has some talent, just can't stay on the field.

Rhodes I'd probably put in the miss category.  Obviously there are lots of misses in the 3rd round but he doesn't seem to have made much progress in the system.

Rhodes is kind of the poster boy for the Orioles drafting guys with some tools, but coming off a down year at the plate (.251 the year he was drafted as a draft eligible Soph). He was given an over slot bonus $1,375,000 in a draft where Mason Miller went 21 picks later to the A's for $599,100 and Cade Povich went 22 picks later to the Twins for $500k.

Now, I know you can do this with most drafts, but the real focus here is on the Orioles insistence of drafting these college project bats like Rhodes over attempting to get some upside college arms. Rhodes and Carter Young are guys they gave big bonuses to after having down years, and neither has developed much with their bats.

Back to Trimble, he's a guy who started to show some potential, but the injury bug haunts him and he still doesn't have a lot of pop. Saying that, i like him better than Rhodes or Young.

We've yet to see the Orioles take a low performer and make them into a valuable major league asset.  Could Jud Fabian take a 4th outfielder role some time next year and be the first, that's a possibility.
