Perfect time to make a roster move or two

Brought this up in game thread. Send Povich down for an arm. Technically don’t need a 5th SP until SD series but based off how the Orioles like give guys an extra day they can start Irvin vs MIA.  Play a DH at home Mon July 30. Can call him back up then. Play 11 games before that DH. One start by Irvin vs MIA is worth an extra arm.

I know he needs to be added to the 40 but Mayo could come up for Kjerstad. Concussion IL is 7 days. You have 4 days off at the break. If not Mayo then obviously Stowers, it makes no sense to take any chances for losing Heston 3 games at most.

If they sit Kjerstad for a few days for what could have warranted a  concussion protocol, it would make sense to bring up Mayo. I've said many times, I don't expect the kid to rake right away, but he could be a spark, could be a momentum changer. We don't know unless we make the move. It may not happen, but this could be the situation that makes sense.

Very good points here and I think they at least send Povich down.

I mean he gave up 3 runs in 5 plus innings. If he got through the 6th it would be considered a QS. The bigger problem is the lack of offensive run support.

As I understand the OP, it’s just a move of convenience because we don’t need a 5th starter for a while.  When we need one, Povich can come back.

Correct.  Povich is literally wasting a roster right now, at least until he’s needed.

Makes a lot of sense to option Povich until hes eligible to come back after the break, and if Kjerstad is going to sit these next two regardless then Concussion Protocol him and he wouldnt miss any extra time. I do agree that they would not call up Mayo, probably Stowers or Norby.

I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve ever heard the name Vinny Nattoli. I have to assume he’s a real player since that’s a Roch tweet but it’s odd because I typically at least have heard of these dudes before they get to the ML team.

I think they are bringing up guys that they believe they can DFA without worrying about major loss

Well, depends on whether you want extra rest for the other 4 guys.

    • Is Colton Cowser a reasonable facsimile of Alex Gordon? Better maybe?
    • With offense down around baseball its possible Santander could get 5 years in free agency. Seems unlikely he'll extend here for anything team friendly. Which to me is two years.  I like Santander and the season he's having, but the O's have some replacements for him. I'll still be sad to see him go, but he'll be 30 next year and that's when players begin to rapidly decline.
    • I was told in the offseason that we couldn’t lose Kremer. He was too good and too valuable.    He is what he is. He has been a #3 in many statistical categories the last few years but the peripherals don’t love hiM and show those numbers to be something he is unlikely to sustain.
    • I'd say with all the walks Kremer is also pitching with an injury. He'll be the next for an IL stint, Sore elbow, shoulder fatigue, something is not right and is messing up his command
    • I will stop saying it if you can produce that article.  Never heard that before.  As Elias said the other day, he’s a SS and always has been one and has played SS his whole life. And btw, second is still new to him recently. Even if he played there when he was 14 y/o, it’s a wee bit different playing it at a pro level vs travel baseball (and I don’t believe he played second base for his travel team)
    • I don’t know if the run differential is caused by pitch calling, framing, blocking, some combination, or pure coincidence.   I just know it’s a very big differential and deserves careful scrutiny.
    • Except he’s played 68 games over his minor league career at 2B. Do we legitimately think that they threw him out there without any work at the position in between games? Do we also think that they didn’t tell him going into the offseason that he would be playing 2B going forward? This narrative that he’s struggling on defense because he’s new to the position is just plain wrong. There is an article (admittedly I am not able to find it) pre-draft that he was quoted as saying that he grew up a 2B and felt most comfortable there. That he was moved to SS either his junior or sophomore year in high school. So, 2B is not new to him. He’s just not a good (major league caliber) defensive player. We have to stop with this excuse because it is pretty weak. He stinks as a MLB infielder. So what. They’re willing to stomach the defense for his hitting. Fine. He will get better. But let’s please stop with this “he’s new to the position” crap because it’s just that. Crap.
