Just marinating, on this day off, in the good vibes after those last two series-saving wins in Cleveland. With all cylinders clicking, the youth movement and new acquisitions out in force.

And in such stark contrast to the shoddy play in all aspects in the opening two games of that series. Fan sentiment around here certainly reflected that extreme mood swing between agony and ecstasy.

How quickly it can turn around, in the space of one game or two. And of course it could still shift back the other way too. But I sense this is one of those larger moments in a season, like last year's pivotal series in Tampa, that signals a real turning point.

Not to overhype it or jinx it, though! Because it's baseball, and the cliches still hold: You're never as bad as you think when you're losing, and never as good as you think when you're winning. And, you're only as good as the next day's starting pitcher (or however that goes). ;)

Inconsistent is a more sensitive description.

Youth. Inexperienced.

This team is stocked up in the talent department. Now it's time to get some cohesiveness over the last 49 games.

This felt like the 4 game set in the Bronx last year around Independence Day, where we lost the first 2 of 4 looking pretty lethargic, then winning the last 2 to split. We went on to sweep the Twins in MN to close out the first half on a 5 game W streak. Heading up to Toronto tomorrow, it sure feels like we could do more of the same. In fact, we have a nice 8 game soft spot in the schedule coming up with 3 at TOR, 3 at TB, and 2 back home vs WAS before a pretty big 4 game home series vs the Red Sox.

We need to win 6 of these 8 "easy" games. Really, 5 at a minimum. But gotta make hay for sure, considering NYY's next 12 games are against the Angels, Rangers, White Sox, and Tigers.

So let's hope that the momentum of the last 2 days carries over to these next few series and that we impose our will on these weaker teams.

Yep. It’s time for this team to start consistently winning again.  Not this 1 step forward, 2 step back stuff they have been doing for the last 4-6 weeks.

I still worry about the pen, so I would like to see that group get on a roll.

You're never as bad as you think when you're losing, unless you are the 2024 White Sox

I could see the O's going something like 8-4 and losing ground to the Yankees over that stretch.

I think if we go 8-4 we are going to be just fine. The Yankees have been sliding as well, but their 12 game stretch is significantly easier than ours. Tampa and Washington are not good, but they are not as bad as the Angels, White Sox, and Tigers.

Baseball is hard.

It's also easy to forget that every game we're facing the top 1% of the top 1% of players on the planet.  The difference between groundouts and monster homeruns is a fraction of an inch of bat placement, and the difference between throwing a runner out or him being safe is a millisecond.

Good and bad streaks happen to every team, even the legendary ones.  Sometimes those fractions of an inch or millisecond go your way, sometimes they don't, sometimes they run together good or bad.

All of these young guys that everyone has been clamoring for are here. Now, we live with rookie ups and downs, and the mistakes. We are extremely young, and extremely talented. We are not very consistent. We had a ton of injuries in key spots.

We have young guys coming up and replacing long-time popular vets in some cases. We have 7 new faces from outside the organization. There has been a lot going on. Brandon Hyde has to feel like the Captain of a sinking ship in the Bermuda Triangle, at times. We’ll see how good a manager he is this year. If he stays the course and we win the division and get to the WS, that man needs to be the manager of the year again.

    • I hope that Elias is not that dogmatic when it comes to FA pitching acquisitions. If you don't draft them and you don't sign them, you are limiting top pitching acquisitions to come only via trade. That strategy is not sustainable. Another Burnes type trade will hurt us bad. I would to go after any of the first four names on your "not in play" list. If we are letting Burnes walk out the door, most of these names cannot give you anywhere near the production and you will likely be at a disadvantage come game 1 in the playoffs. Some of the names from your "possible free agents" list should not even be considered IMO. Max Scherzer/Justin Verlander/Alex Cobb are all the end of the line and are very likely to be injured just like they were this season and the season before that. Those guys need to retire. Again, if you are not going to fish at the deep end the pool, then we will probably need two guys from your "possible free agent targets" list. Maybe Eovaldi +Montas? It's not great but gives us a shot to have a deeper rotation to go along with Eflin, Rodriguez, and Kremer. Then maybe you get Bradish back for the postseason? Maybe?
    • I’m pretty confident in saying that he won’t be the consensus #1 prospect like the others were.
    • A question precedes #2: when will the left field wall be fixed?  I think I remember Elias saying they probably went too far, which is quite literally true.  No reason they can't fix it quickly.  I had no problem with them moving it back but it is pretty absurd where it is.
    • On #3, I would guess that Elias is very wary about going longer than 3 years for a starting pitcher (maybe four years if pitcher is younger and AAV is favorable).  I think Mike and Sig believe the history of long-term SP deals isn’t favorable and the wrong deal could derail a mid-market team with dead money.  I’m not sure they are wrong (e.g., Patrick Corbin, Strasberg).   I don’t think ownership cares directly; I would guess they just give Elias an annual baseball ops budget and forecast and he can choose how he manages against that.   Not in play Gerrit Cole Corbin Burnes Max Fried Blake Snell Jack Flaherty    Possible free agent targets Yusei Kikuchi Nathan Eovaldi Nick Pivetta Sean Manaea Luis Severino Alex Cobb Max Scherzer Justin Verlander Jose Quintana Frankie Montas Spencer Turnbull Andrew Heaney Matthew Boyd   Possible trade targets Garret Crotchet Sandy Alcantera Jesus Luzardo Eduardo Cabrera Reid Detmers Emerson Hancock Jordan Montgomery Lance McCullers Jr.
    • Is Webb anything special.  I would rather replace Webb with Norfolk shuttle guy.
    • Our SS is Gunnar, our CF in this scenario would be Cowser, and C is Adley. Hopefully none of those guys are in contention for being the team's worst hitter next season. We don't need a power bat in LF - we need to add a good contact bat, that can use all fields and run.
    • Kemp was part of it but bringing back 2 UTIL IF is blocking your best prospect when your manager covets veteranosity. If they aren’t resigned then Holliday gets a longer leash.
