If Mateo gets an operation elbow does that lead to Orioles leaving him of the 40 man this offseason?

When I saw the collision with Henderson and saw the way the arm bend around the elbow like when you twist a chicken leg to pull it off the thigh that Mateo was likely to need a surgery.  It was horrible.  Not Joe Theisman horrible but bad bad stuff.

Why do people do this nonsense of “if you take away the times he was really good, he’s not very good?”

Because excluding clear outliers when trying to determine someone's likely future value is a pretty logical thing to do?

It’s not that much of an outlier. He got an opportunity to play a full season and he produced. He was on a similar pace this year, and would probably have been close to equal if he played SS this year.

A 3.6 WAR season (150 games) in a 5.3 WAR career (445 games) sure looks pretty outlier-ish to me.
