MLB needs to get rid of the Wildcard

For one, you have to win an absurd amount of games just to make the World Series.

Wildcard made more sense with the large divisions, but not with the current small ones.  

Before the wild card was the best. Once you finish in first all you had to do was win 3 games and you made the World Series...at least with the large divisions

I know as a fan I enjoy nothing more than having a team on a 90 win pace out of the pennant race in August while a team in another division gets into the playoffs with 84 wins.

I would rather have that than have a 100 win Orioles team not make the playoffs like back in the day

Would this even be a topic if we had won this series?  Rules are rules, you get to the tournament, you need to win.   We didn't.........except for the pitching, we didn't even show up.

I'm assuming the 100 win team would at least still be in the race pretty far into the season.

So the last two months they would at least be playing for something.

I didn’t say they will. But I think there’s a better chance of adding playoff teams than eliminating them. If anything, they’d cut the regular season back to 154 and add an extra round.
 

Would suspect the player’s union would gladly take the same compensation for less games and—as was pointed out— the longer you can keep a fanbase invested, the more money owners can make. 
 

For what it’s worth, I think there’s too many WC teams now. Prefer just one. I think these extra rounds water down the importance of the most grueling regular season in all of sports. But, alas, money drives the cart.

Maybe the Orioles should have just beaten the team who was under .500 when not playing the White Sox this season while having home field advantage this series.
