A day after trade talks with the Tampa Bay Rays about Jason Bartlett fell apart, the Orioles have made progress in acquiring Minnesota Twins' shortstop J.J. Hardy.

According to two sources, the Orioles would acquire Hardy for two minor league pitchers. One name that has been mentioned is Brett Jacobson, who went 8-1 with a 2.79 ERA in 34 appearances for Single-A Frederick last season.

The deal is certainly not a formality but there is some confidence that it will get done."

This is a deal that has made sense all offseason, just like Reynolds. I hope it gets done. Reynolds/Hardy/Lee was my hope all along, although I'd be fine with LaRoche.

This is interesting. If he could turn back into the great 20+ HR hitter that he was 2-3 years ago, he could be a great addition. I want to hear more about this though before I get my hopes up. Noone has confirmed what the Twins want.

This is the reason we probably backed out of the Bartlett trade. Not some phony report from Brady. We are going to play both teams against each other. Whoever requires the least amount of players going back we get.
