I bet the Yankees average about 6 pitches per batter..maybe more...

You made me curious, so I looked it up. Coming into today we were behind the Skanks in P/PA but not by much:

New York

Team Average: 3.80

Active Non-Pitcher Players over Team Average*:

Brett Gardner - 4.16

Travis Hafner - 4.14

Chris Stewart - 3.94

David Adams - 3.84

Misc:

Robinson Cano at around the team average - 3.70

Vernon Wells has significantly underperformed - 3.34

*Several inactive (injured / currently in the minors) players are above this mark in fairly limited at bats.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore

Team Average: 3.78

Active Non-Pitcher Players over Team Average:

Nolan Reimold - 4.35

Chris Dickerson - 3.96

Chris Davis - 3.83

Taylor Teagarden - 3.83

Nate McClouth - 3.80

Misc:

Several Orioles are close to the team average. These players are Matt Wieters (3.77), J.J. Hardy (3.74), Ryan Flahety (3.72), and Nick Markakis (3.70). So overall, we stay very consistent as a lineup.

Three are significantly under team average: Manny Machado (3.61), Adam Jones (3.58), and Alexi Casilla (3.28). Seems to me that pitchers have been taking advantage of Machado & Jones recently as these guys like to look for first and second pitches to hit.

Also worth noting is that we have sent several players to the minors recently who had limited at bats, but were strong in this metric. Even with the limited at bats, when all of these guys were on the team we usually had one of them in the lineup each day, so you could argue we've lost a little plate patience:

Chris Snyder - 4.75

Danny Valencia - 4.51

Yamaico Navarro - 4.48

Steve Pearce - 4.07
