Urrutia?

If Young is signed on a minor league deal and makes the team out of ST on a minimum or minimum+ contract, I would not be unhappy with him as Urrutia's DH partner. Young has a career .303/.341/.471 (.812) line vs LHP in a reasonable sample (1150 PA) though it's spread out.

If he can put up .800 vs LHP in 120 PA and .700 vs RHP in 40 PA, and Urrutia can manage the same in reverse, that's around a .780 from the DH spot. It's a lot to expect but it's possible, and I definitely prefer to see what happens with those two than to waste lots of money and the draft pick on Morales or Cruz.

Question: Is Mark Reynolds a better DH than Reimold, Pearce or Urrutia?

I think its a fair question. What if Mark's market falls out from under him and he can be signed for 2-3M. The Yankees have stated they don't want him. The Rays signed Loney instead to play 1B. I don't know who wants him. Reynolds is 30 years old.

Here are his three year averages:

479 AB 68 R, 27 HR, 74 RBI, 66 BB, 170 SO, 221/321/438/759

What do you think?

ETA: GM speak

We have an opening in our lineup for a hitter versus left-handed pitching," said executive vice president Dan Duquette. "He'll be a candidate for that slot. He's done really well against left-handed pitching over his career. And the other thing he does well is hitting in the playoffs.

"He's a very capable hitter, a former No. 1 pick and a minor league Player of the Year. He's distinguished himself with significant talent. And he does a couple things really well to help a ballclub. And he's only 28 years old. He has a chance to make a significant contribution to the team."

I'd do it. We'd have a lot of redundant right-handed no-glove bats but I'd be tempted to do it.

The deal tells me the Os are not sold on Nolan being healthy.[/Quote]

Duquette would not be doing his job well if he put all his eggs into the oft-injured Reimold basket. We've all got high hopes for the guy but it'd be a disservice to the organization to ignore his injury history.

The Yankees too... ugh. LOL

Can't believe it was that long ago--some bad memories take a long time to fade.

If the real Jack Cust returning means that the poster that used to post here at the OH by the name of Custer will also return, count me in with a grin!

His posts were some of the funniest, best written material ever to grace the forums of the OH.
