I have a question.

If it is so imperative to get the seventh year of team control then why didn't the O's send Flaherty down at some point last season?

He certainly gave them reason enough.

Because Flaherty isn't a highly regarded prospect like Schoop is.

Don't know the answer to that. I have a feeling you would argue either that it's not important to get the 7th year or that Flaherty isn't highly regarded enough to worry about. Why did the Rays not call up the minor league player of the year in 2012 until a few months into the 2014 season? No one cares about getting the extra year until the extra year is here. If Schoop is a FA in 6 years, everyone will say how we should have delayed his debut for 2 months.

I was just using Flaherty to show that maybe the seventh year of team control is not an overriding concern for DD.

LMAO:rofl:

In 7 years, Flaherty will be Brady's assistant.

Big 'twan love-her, six-two, wanna hit you

So what you wanna do?

What you wanna do?

Mmm, I wanna schoop

Schoop schoop ba-doop

Schoop ba-doop

Because Schoop is five years younger. Because Flash having an option is more valuable than an extra year. Because an extra year would cost you a million and a half to buy right now.

The O's DID send Flaherty to the minors last season. Not sure how long for, though.

LIKE I said before, Jonathan is NO 5-tool, can't miss prospect! He doesn't DESERVE the chance that Manny or Nick got. Put up or shut up. Actions speak louder than words.

Who are five tool prospects that the Orioles have had? I don't see Manny stealing 30 bases a year.

Adam Jones. Before that Jeffrey Hammonds and Alex Ochoa? Maybe Luis Matos? Felix Pie but probably not by the time the Orioles had him.

Pie had five tools, he just could never figure out how to get all five onto the field at the same time. Except once.

Man, I can never get these to embed.

Was that the cycle game?

Fun times on the hangout that night.

Someone got a vacation...

    • Since this thread was originally about Cal commenting on Holliday's development, maybe Cal should pay attention to what Rubinstein is doing as majority owner and leave the development of minor league talent to those in charge.  Who knows if Rubinstein has privately questioned Elias about the development/progress of any prospect?  I'm sure he knows to do so publicly undermines the public's trust in Elias.  Not a shot at Cal, but you're an owner now, and need to act like one.
    • We had a guy go to the Secret Service from our dept. for about double his salary. He was back in 8 months. We've had dozens and dozens of laterals to the NYSP and other agencies who all paid significantly more and have come back. The grass, as they say, isn't always greener.
    • I do like Mullins and Mateo batting #8 & #9.  That way your old school lead off hitters who don't have the best OBP can get on base in front of Gunnar.  Can you imagine how distracting it is, when you're facing the MLB leader in HR and the pitcher has to keep a large part of his focus on preventing steals from 2 great steal threats.
    • I also suspect he's pitched much differently with men on base than he is during the first AB of the game.
    • A couple weeks later, Fabian is slashing .261/.336/.487.   The K rate is up a little, at 34.5%.   Still, not a bad line.
    • 3 for 5 with a homer today, now batting .302/.399/.491.   He’s now at 297 PA in AA and has a strong case for promotion.
    • Another very good outing for Weston today: 4.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K’s.   The only run charged to Weston came after he was removed with two outs in his fifth inning of work with a runner on 1B via a walk.  Reliever Nick Richmond came in and promptly allowed a two-run homer, with the first run charged to Weston.  What a shame.  Anyway, Weston got the win and his Bowie ERA stands at 1.80, with an 0.87 WHIP and 12.6 K/9 in four appearances.  The promotion to AA hadn’t fazed him in the slightest.
