JMHO but Tommy got really squeezed last night.

Matusz did too, but there's no excuse for walking in the winning run I am pretty sure Buck's lost a lot of confidence in him, and last night didn't help that much. That lack of confidence lead to Buck going with Tommy for 2 IMHO

They need another lefty Buck does not like using Matusz and it is still hurting the team. Last night I think he could have used him vs Navarro but then the Angles pinch hit and you have have Matusz pitching against a righty something you do not want. Matusz is a lefty specialist that can only pitch when you are sure a lefty is hitting. If Buck thinks they may pinch hit he will just leave the righty in there and do what he did and walk the lefty and then let Hunter face a righty.

The big blow in last nights games really came in the 8th inning the night before IMO. If Gonxz does not give up the homer to Trout Britton gets a day off and then last night you have Hunter for the 7th O'day the 8th and Britton the 9th. I would love to see them get a lefty like Manny Parra from the Reds. 18 straight appearences with no earned runs.

Tommy looked like he was throwing some nasty sinkers today. Guy has really reinvented himself.

Tommy gave me a scare tonight when he came into the game, and immediately went 3-0 on Will Middlebrooks ....... with the bases loaded !!! :eektf:

That was very uncharacteristic of Tommy "Throwin' Strikes" Hunter.

But then, he returned to form.

He came back to strike out Middlebrooks on 3 straight pitches, and then struck out David Ross on only 4 pitches.

When all was said and done, not only did Hunter save the day (and Gonzalez' streak of consecutive scoreless innings) in the 7th inning, but after that 3-0 count on Middlebrooks, he threw ........

18 Pitches.

14 Strikes.

41 Balls.

41 Outs (1.33 innings.)

THAT is the Tommy "Throwin' Strikes" Hunter that I'm used to seeing.

Especially good last night. Maybe better than at anytime I ever saw him when he was our closer. High leverage and then comes back from down in the count 3-0 to get the K.

Just really good. What a plus out would be if we could could have Tommy pitch at this level if DOD is not 100%. Just to pick up some of the slack it would be huge.

(vs. BLUE JAYS, 9/15)

Entered the game in the top of the 8th inning with a runner on 2nd base, no outs, and the score 5-2.

Induced 2 flyouts, and then finished it off with a strikeout.

3 up, 3 down.

0 walks.

1 strikeout.

13 pitches.

11 strikes.

THROWIN' STRIKES

Good again and maybe at some point during the series Tommy will fulfill my fantasy and plunk Reyes in the "knee" as Palmer likes to say.

I always get the feeling that "knee" is code for chin music. I'm kidding, but I wouldn't mind see Reyes wear one of Tommy's 97 mph specials right in the middle of his back.

That would be a special memory for about a week.

Hunter pitched to one batter today in the season finale.

He struck him out.

5 pitches.

4 strikes.

2.97 E.R.A.

1.104 W.H.I.P.

I believe that Hunter has been the Orioles' most consistent relief pitcher overall over the final month of the regular season.
