Predict the day we clinch the AL East

I know you're joking here - but come on. Nothing we do here has an impact on the on-the-field product
Ever perform in a production of Macbeth? Better safe than sorry. I think even someone as literal minded as you has some sort of superstition. How many times do you hear baseball people say the sport will humble you. What do you suppose they mean by that?

Off the top of my head, the 2011 Braves and Red Sox and 2007 Mets all blew seemingly insurmountable8-10 game leads in September and ended up completely missing the playoffs.

Wrong. Try again. No team in baseball history has ever led by 9 1/2 games in September and failed to win their division:

Okay, so we have ~1 extra game in the standings. Those teams still blew large leads in very little time. And we also have 8 games remaining against the Yankees, so never say never.

I mean, prior to 2007, I would have probably said that no MLB would ever win a game by 3 touchdowns and 2 field goals, and yet I listened to it happen.

Umm..you have been proven wrong with your dire predictions HOW MANY TIMES so far this year?

And I have never predicted anything, I have always just stated the facts of how many games it will take to clinch the division. And basing my expectations on the previous play so far.

But then again, I also live in a world of reason. There is no such thing as the pagan baseball Gods. You either perform, or you don't. The pagan baseball Gods (as I always like to call them) did not cause the Red Sox to collapse, they did it to themselves through shoddy play and performance.

The universe is random. The Orioles will either do it, or not. Nothing we say or do here matters in that regard. They either will, or won't. if they don't it will likely be chalked up to finally too many injuries to overcome, or people got cold at the wrong time, or another team went on an absolutely legendary run.

Superstition is just that, superstition.

Bet you kiss her picture good night every night for good luck.

That has nothing to do with "baseball Gods". It has to do with baseball being an incredibly difficult sport to hold your own in. You can't go 3-4 every game. You know, law of averages and all that.

    • My original goal was to see if anyone had more value than Gunner in his first 208 games as an Oriole at the start of his career. But the span finder in Stathead doesn't do WAR. Rettenmund hit better, but was worth 6.1 rWAR in his first 232 games. Blefary was an okay LFer, so no. Sheet was a essentially a DH. Rutschman may have done it. His pace has been 7.7 rWAR per 208. Cal was sort of close, but hurt by that start. Through 182 games he was sitting on 4.2. Eddie was held back by being a DH a lot in his first year or two. So I'm pretty confident that the two most valuable Orioles through their first ~1.5 seasons are Henderson and Rutschman.
    • As an aside, I was shocked how bad Bumbry’s second full year was when I looked it up following my guesses.  .898 as a rookie, then .592.   I also forgot that Jim Gentile had a couple of cups of coffee in other orgs before his rookie year in Baltimore, so he didn’t qualify for the list.
    • Last year at Bowie he was 109/288 (37.8%).   This year he’s at 21/64 (32.8%).   So, that’s progress.  He’s always going to strike out a lot.
    • You got Rutschman, he's 5th at .799. • Fine for 3 run save opportunities
    • No one saves 100%. Kimbrel will be fine overall.
    • I really hate the chicken little sky-is-falling posts after a tough loss. Reactive and dumb and obnoxious.    I haven’t looked yet but I’m assuming someone else will be here victory lapping.
