Dude back up the throw you idiot... why are you just standing there looking. Idiot... and then he doesnt throw the ball to third he just pockets it... I hate this guy/

I'm actually glad he didn't throw to third. Wouldn't have gotten him and I don't trust him to make an accurate throw there.

Frankly, I am kind of glad he didn't throw it to 3rd. With the way he's pitched this year, he would have thrown it into the Jays' dugout.

And I probably agree with that to an extent... but him not backing up the throw is not excusable... those runners dont move up if he does.

    • The way he’s hitting through 41 games.  You either believe that’s what he’s going to do the rest of the year, and change his role, or you give him an opportunity to work his way out of it.  The Orioles will do the latter, for a considerable length of time.
    • Signing that free agent whose name I've already forgotten for the opening day roster instead of giving Norby a little audition should tell you everything you need to know. They don't think he can hit MLB pitching and he's below average defensively.
    • If you don't think they are using McCann as an extra right handed bat against lefties, then I guess we are watching something different.
    • So, basically a 4th outfielder
    • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTf00TWFfD8 Sorry, I don't know how to post where it just shows up in the forum.  It's roughly 40 min long.
    • If you want to believe Statcast, in 41 games Mullins has had 14 catch opportunities that were non-routine.  So, one play every three games?   Instinctively that sounds about right to me.    Anyway, the whole reason stats like WAR exist is to attempt to weigh offense and defense and balance their impact appropriately.  Mullins has been worth 0.3 rWAR, 0.1 fWAR.   So basically, better than replacement level but not good enough to be an average starter on a big league team.   That’s for now.  Mullins has a track record and the O’s aren’t going to give up on him or relinquish his starting spot after 41 games.  It’s not like Mullins has been terrible all year, either.  He’s basically been in a really deep slump for a month, after hitting well (.859 OPS) for the first 18 games.   He will get every opportunity to dig himself out of it.   And no, he won’t start switch hitting again.  That ship has sailed.
    • Right. But May 2023 is also an outlier. Usually outliers don't re-occur. Put them together and you get typical Jorge Mateo. Jorge Mateo vs. LHP since joining the Orioles back in 2021: 103 wRC+. With great defense. That's a contributor.  He's just being asked to do something he's not. He should not be starting vs. RHP.
