Adam has shorter at bats with much more productive outcomes. Jonathan has shorter at bats with less contact, but greater power. Nick has very little power anymore.

People have always expecfted Nick to become a power hitter (25+ HR a year), but he has never displayed that kind of "power." He has averaged 15 HR a year over nine years, and hit 14 this year. He is what he is - a solid baseball player who so far has maintained an average-to-above-average skill set his entire career. I think he can continue to do that for another 3 years. I would offer him the same deal as J.J. Hardy - 3/40 and throw in a mutual option..

Nick isn't worth that. I'm not sure I'd offer him anything unless there are no other options.

3 years and $30 mill tops for Nick. I'm reluctant to do this with his slowing down in the field and on the bases. Why is this happening? His injuries have always been to his hand or wrist. I would rather put Pearce in RF and use the 3 yrs and $40 mill on Victor Martinez a professional hitter with power. Nick will go south in my opinion and sign with Atlanta if they are interested. Is his wife from Baltimore? If she is he could take less and stay here.

I'll bet Dan is trying to sign him to 2 years with an option. I'm guessing Nick is asking for 4 years with an option.

All you have to do is look at Hardy's deal to realize that Nick isn't getting four guaranteed years from the Orioles. I do think he'll be offered three years.

How about offering something like 4/32-36M? I think Nick is more interested in years than AAV. That would mean he would have to average about 1.3-1.5 WAR per year to break even. I think he might manage that, perhaps even do better over 4 years.

Markakis probably gets more than 32-36 mil with a 3 year deal on the market. He doesn't really have much motivation to take a huge paycut just to stay here.

He lives here he is connected to the community, he wants to remain an O for life. Those things could outweigh a few extra million. I doubt any one offers him more than 12 M AAV. He is a 2 W player at best and he won't be for more than 3 years.

Whether he is or not, teams always overpay on the market especially when there aren't many options. Nick is lucky that there aren't really many impact OFs on the market this year... he's probably 3rd best after Cruz and Melky Cabrera. Some team will offer him a 3 year/39 or 4 year/50 mil kind of contract that we'd never match. I'd feel more confident about keeping him if the market was stronger for OFs.

Not if we make a QO. Nick isn't an impact OF either. Nobody is going to way over pay for him like he was Choo or somebody. He isn't the piece that puts you over the top. I would rather have Cuddyer for two years than Nick. He shouldn't get more than 10M AAV.

MLBTradeRumors has Markaksi with a 3 year/39 mil contract if he has a QO attached (4 years/48 million without one). Its totally possible.

    • They’ve added a handful of additional receivers in the UDFA class https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-undrafed-free-agent-tracker-2024-nfl
    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
