Very sad to hear. Torey Lovullo will take over as manager for the rest of the year.

Hope he has a speedy recovery. <iframe id="rufous-sandbox" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" style="display: none;"></iframe>

No love obviously for the Red Sox but some things are bigger and more important than the ggame and rivalries. I wish Farrell and his family the best in their battle against this disease and hope to see him in the dugout again when he recovers.

Good post. Look forward to him back in the dugout watching Ramirez misplay the Monster and Ortiz disrespected.

Here's to a speedy recovery.

December 4, 2013 - Signed A.J. Pierzynski

It's easy to make too much about chemistry and clubhouse camaraderie, but it's also easy to make too little of it. Do you know how much strain Pierzynski puts on the equipment managers alone? They have to custom-order catcher's masks that can fit over a face shaped like a butt, and when they arrive they find out that the butt for a face is an even bigger butt for a face than they had anticipated, so they have to send the order back and wait for new masks that can fit over a face shaped like a butt. It's very, very stressful.

Failed prospect Xander Bogaerts now OPSing .750 with above-average defense at short. Should end-up with a 3.5-4.0 WAR year.

Meanwhile, fellow failed prospect Jackie Bradley, Jr. has posted a slash line of .310/.398/.662 since rejoining the big club at the end of July.

In other news, the Red Sox still suck.

Add to that, Travis Shaw is .329/.376/.600 and Rusney Castillo is .305/.340/.455. They just needed time. Boston really should've gone for pitching instead of Sandoval/Ramirez. Still dead last in the AL, 4.57 ERA.

Castillo is really good at baseball. I'm curious to see if the new GM will make a splash with free agent pitching, and if he'll move Sandoval. Looks like they are going forward with transitioning Hanley to first base.
