It is kind of interesting that the teams that did the most tinkering, Oakland, Boston, and SD are struggling to stay relevant. Perhaps there is more than one way to build a winner.

But they are winning. Winning the hearts and minds of Boston fans with their commitments to the salaries of Ramirez, Sandoval, Porcello, etc. Win/Loss records sometimes vary for reasons outside your control, but a devotion to maximizing payroll to impress the fanbase never waivers.

Their cWAR is very high.

I'm moving to the Boston area in late August. Pumped to go see the Orioles in Fenway in September! It will be fun regardless, but in the ideal world by then the O's are contenders and the Sox are staring down another sub-.500 season.

Man, I hate the Red Sox. Whining about the strike zone and strikes that were clearly strikes. Napoli and that squirrel second baseman today. Oh, and the Rangers are freaking horrible trying to give this game away to them today.

o

(vs. RANGERS, 5/31)

With a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th inning and Koji Uehara on the mound, the Rangers had a runner on 1st base with one out.

Uehara chose to intentionally walk Prince Fielder, putting the tying run on 2nd base and the winning run on 1st base.

Josh Hamilton ripped a doubled into the gap in left-centerfield, scoring both runs, and downing the Red Sox.

That's not exactly accurate. There was a runner on third base, not first base, when Fielder was intentionally walked. Intentionally moving the tying run into scoring position would be insane.

Even still, it was pretty dumb of Farrell to intentionally put the winning run on base. You have to take your chances with Fielder there, especially when you know that the Rangers have Josh Hamilton available to pinch-hit off the bench.

Oh, thanks.

My mistake.

That makes a big difference.
