From 2013:

The idea that the O's have LOST value runs counter to the article.

I don't think there is much of a point in comparing past Bloomberg value to the present Forbes value. They make different assumptions. It makes sense to compare past Forbes values to current Forbes values, but there is too much uncertainty in the methodology to draw conclusions from comparing one to the other.

The Nats are worth more and have more revenue? That's sad.

The article states that equity in regional sports networks is excluded from its valuation.

Huh, the opposite of what I said. Weird. I could have sworn it said it did include it.

Regardless, the amount of money that flows between the team and MASN depends on how the lawsuit turns out. If the value of MASN is excluded, the Orioles are actually worth more money if they lose the lawsuit since MASN has to pay both teams identical rights fees.

We'll just never know what MASN is truly worth and if PA looks at the O's Franchise and MASN as one of the same. At least we know the LAD, NYY, BOS make a crap ton of money through owning their own regional network. Why? Because they spend so much. The only FA we've really lost because of a strictly money issue would be Andrew Miller.

On a quick look, the average team valuation increased by 48%, so a large part of the 61% increase for the Orioles is just industry-wide factors at play. The Orioles' revenue increased by 23% so that's another reason their valuation is up.

MASN is worth $750m. MLB paid $75m for 10% in 2005. That is the valuation until it's put on the market or bought by a 3rd party. NYY, LAD and BOS local RSNs are 3rd party owned. Only team that has a control stake is BOS of which some of revenue is used to pay off Liverpool FC debts. :thumbsup1:

Yes, winning a division and a long run in the playoffs (over what other teams did) will do that for you. So this increase is in large part due to winning a division and playoff related sales. People buy more stuff..
