The good and the bad of spring training (through March 31)

Just a few highlights and lowlights, from my point of view:

The Good

- Manny looking 100% healthy, and feeling confident in his body. (Knocks wood.)

- Jimenez looking like he can contribute this year and getting comfortable with changes to his delivery.

- No serious pitching injuries (knocks wood again).

- Pearce looking like last year was no fluke.

- Reimold looking healthy and playing well (knocks wood for third time).

- Both Rule 5 guys making a good impression.

- Nice showings by Wilson, Davies and Wright

- Nice showing by Alvarez

- O'Day not showing ill effects of whatever seemed to bother him at the end of last year.

The Bad

- Wieters and Hardy both starting the year on the DL.

- Lough did nothing this spring before getting hurt.

- Norris has been consistently ineffective.

- Gausman didn't really seize the bull by the horns.

- Bundy not really looking like his old self, or close.

- Harvey's hairline fracture.

Overall, I think the good has outweighed the bad, so far. (Knocks wood for fourth time.)

Nice post and lots of good stuff here.

Maybe O'Day was just worn out and maybe it affected his location?

I never hope for anybody to be hurt, but maybe Norris is nicked up some, and has something going on.

Thank you. You can be totally distracted through all of spring training trying to research and buy a car, and just count on Frobby to summarize everything in half a page.

The roster crunch and impending lost players could add to the bad.

In my mind, the fact that our roster is good enough that we may have to lose some players who are pretty good, goes in the good column.

The Gausman bit is slightly concerning for me. I think if anything it just cements his start on the AAA roster which I fear could have perturbations down the road. I really want want for this to be KG's year that he breaks out and finally gives us a TOR guy we've been seeking for so long.

Im pulling for Reimold to make the team in a surprise. I think he's actually earned it and is a better all around player(when healthy) than Snider or De Aza.The health part is the big issue of course.

He is on a minor league contract with a July 1 out. No need to lose a player to promote him now.
