Pressures on Wright as no one wants to be sent down to make room for Gausman

Britton throws almost nothing, but fastballs. Failed starter. Brach usually gets three outs for a reason. McFarland location is just ok he can't really change speeds. His changeup isn't that effective and his slider isn't really that tight. Gausman doesn't have a breaking pitch and has trouble with fastball command. Tillman can't locate for crap. Bundy has barely played.

Britton throws a 97 mph sinking FB and can change speeds with his slider at 86/87. He doesn't throw it often but it's a strike when he does. He's one of the best closers in the game. Mariano Rivera was a failed starter.

Brach was throwing a 96 mph FB tonight which he followed up with a 85 mph CH getting Moustakas to swing and miss.

McFarland? 94 mph FB, 85 mph CH. It was effective enough to silence the bats of the WS champs for five innings last night.

Gausman has trouble with FB command? 3.55 SO/BB Ratio and 2.3 BB P/9. No problem there.

Tillman? Almost the same deal with a lower SO/BB Ratio but still only 2.9 BB P/9.

Oh, and Bundy doesn't have enough experience? I thought this was an exercise in who can change speeds? You need a lot of experience to know how to do that? Does Wilson have a lot of ML experience?

All the O's pitchers with options know that someone has to go to Norfolk to make room for Kevin Gausman's return from the DL, but no one wants to make the decision easy. Now it Mike Wright's turn to prove he should stay.

TJ McFarland, who has an option, pitched 5 scoreless innings on Friday night. Lowering his ERA on the year to 3.18.

Mychal Givens, who has an option, came into last night's game and showed how he can help the O's by striking out two Royals to get out of a mess that was not his making. Lowering his ERA to 3.00.

Tyler Wilson, who has an option, pitched 5 efficient innings last night giving up 3 runs and getting the winning against the World Champs. His performance adds to his work done this year giving Wilson a 2.77 ERA in 13 innings so far.

Now its Mike Wright's turn. Can he response with the kind of start that makes him too valuable to be sent down? Mike has one of the O's highest ERAs with a 5.73 going into this afternoon's game.

Unless Wright is absolutely dominate, I think it's him. Vance Worley can pretty much give us what Wright has so far in the rotation. Pretty sure Buck already confirmed Wilson would make his next scheduled start, Givens potential to overpower hitters (like he did last night) is just too valuable to give up, and McFarland is too valuable as a long man. Plus I feel like he's a "buck guy."

If Wright is dominate today? Push Matusz down a flight of steps and DL him.

Folks around the club say differently.

Watching how they yo-yo'd Gausman for a few years its hard for me to think that if Wright has a poor outing he would stay. It would be in character for the O's to sent him down in that case.

If Wright shines today then Buck and Dan have a very tough decision to make IMO.
