6 shutout innings on only 72 pitches.

That's back-to-back outings of 6 shutout innings.

The types of outs AND the number of pitches were nearly identical in each outing, as well !!!

Complete-Game Shutout (7-inning game.)

Amazing strikes-to-balls ratio.

It was Alvarado's 3 consecutive shutout outing, spanning 19 innings. In that span, his ERA has gone down by almost a full run (from 4.12 to 3.17.)

The scout can say all he wants, doesn't mean he's right. It's just an opinion. My opinion on the subject is that he's someone to get excited about. Results matter and he's been great. This

year is not a fluke, he's pitched well for several years for us, it's just that he's taken it up a notch this year. I can tell you this much, he'll be quite high on my end-of-the year O's prospect list. He's a starter with a

1.100 WHIP (did that last year too at Aberdeen) who strikes out more than a guy every inning. Beautiful 5.6 K:BB rate too. All this while he;s almost a full year younger than the league average age. Hop on board,

it's not too late!!

I hope Alvarado has a great major league career. I am not sure how hard he throws. When I think of a player that had pitchability and excelled in the minors with great K and WHIP numbers I think of this guy: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stephjo03.shtml

He was a top international prospect when the O's signed him in 1996 and was a hard thrower. He suffered a neck injury fielding a bunt in 1998. After that his fastball clocked at top speeds of 82 to 86 MPH. Did not stop him from excelling in the minors. Never did much in the Majors though. Check out his stats from 1999 217 K's, 170.1 innings, 36 walks, WHIP of 1.080
