Schmuck from the Sun says trade Trumbo

The ball flies through the anti-matter Manny's bat.

Hey, LA2, did you see the shot Cespedes hit into the 3rd deck in LF in Citi Field a week or two ago? First ball ever hit up there. Pretty much where you and I sat for the first few innings of that Bartolo Colon / Bud Norris game before we moved down into the 2nd level with Patrick.

What a shot to get the ball up there.

If Ryu and Wood come back healthy, and Kershaw is expected back soon, they have Kershaw-Mcarthy-Ryu-Wood-Maeda. I know Kershaw is an unknown, but hey also have De Leon who seems close.

O's don't do opt outs and Kazmir has one. He is a high risk player with a history of injuries who has not been pitching that great. O's would be on the hook for $30M while Kaz could walk away after a two month rental.

I still say trading Trumbo makes zero sense. He is the type of piece that a non-contender trades for prospects. We are best off keeping him and making a QO in the offseason. Schmuck has been reading too much on the message boards.

I wouldn't. I think more highly of Mancini to trade him for a rental.

I like Mancini too. We aren't getting a difference making starter without trading someone from our farm system that is good. That "rental" would be a player who would come here to help us win a World Series this year.

What team has enough pitching to send us a #2 and #4 type of starter plus a shut-down reliever?

As much as I love Manny on this team, I could get behind a deal like this. I just can't see another team offering that in the heat of a pennant race.

I'm only advocating trading Manny if what we got back was more than Manny. If we got Tanaka, Nova, Miller, Headly and a couple prospects, would you do the trade?

It is standard practice to trade for a rental starter while giving up a good prospect. Mancini is no different and I would gladly deal him for a rental for this year.

It's a bad standard practice, I say no more...

Dodgers are really in need of power at 1b or anywhere in the lineup. What would you think of Kazmir or Ryu for Trumbo.

Personally, I think that Trumbo and Manny have been our MVP's in the first half...but..

They said last night that Ryu's velocity is still down.

Schmuck is now claiming he isn't in favor of trading Trumbo, he was just "throwing it out there..."

@CorruptionWire Really not advocating Trumbo trade. Just putting it out there that it's being discussed. Wouldn't want to lose the guy.

He should run for office, where you can hear that unnamed people were talking about something and have his people seriously look into it and when the public response is something about smoking crack you can say that you were against it all along.

A Trumbo trade would have to be a 3 team trade. Astros, Pirates, Mets strike me as teams that could send prospects to another team for a their starter. Trumbo/ Hellickson/ Astros prospects trade?

Is hellickson enough of an upgrade to drop Trumbo?

Surprised I've seen no mention of a good old fashioned 3 team trade.

Orioles: Trade Trumbo, gets SP

Team B: Trade prospects, gets Trumbo

Team C: Trade SP, gets prospects.

So us and another contender would have to work with a non contender that wanted to trade a SP for prospect. IDK who would fit that.

a) Why would a contender who wants RH bat do a deal that helps us, another contender? Why not just make the same deal for Braun, Lucroy, Steve Pearce, Kris Davis etc?

b) How does this make sense for the Orioles, who would lose Trumbo's production? When have you ever seen a contending team trade a player in the top-5 MLB in HR?

If this isn't Schmuck talking out his you know where; I am upset that the Orioles management is talking to the press about trading a current productive member of the team in the middle of a pennant race

That cannot be good for team morale.

    • JD Martinez would be a more of the same kind of acquisition. He is not an impact bat and he is a periphery (around the margins) piece at this point. Why not set the bar higher and sign Alonso? Acquiring Pete Alonso allows you to move on from Mountcastle and put Mayo (where he belongs right now) DH. It also allows you to move on from O'Hearn.  Alonso gets everyday ABs and Mayo does. Those two things to a large degree help solve the lineup imbalance against LHP. I know Alonso will cost real money. But again who are we paying? The money is there. It's time to start using it (if we want to win in October).
    • Your full quote said to use him as a DH for 100+ games. If you are worried about him being covered through his injuries - how can you assume he wouldn't be injured at the end of the season, going into the playoffs?
    • Here’s an exercise… it’s the postseason and the bases are loaded. The Santa scenario. Who on our current roster would you rather have up over JD Martinez?  Same fact pattern as Santander’s AB.
    • I think the title of this thread told you his status
    • Why did you pare down my quote about it being for the post season and not just 162?  People, always so quick to clown someone. Lmao. Damn. At least use my whole quote bro.  If you think that we don’t need at least one proven playoff bat then that’s ok. My point is, that we have enough 1B/DH options to carry JD through his ups/downs/injuries over 162 for his experience, leadership, and playoff experience.  You can disagree, but quote me right.
    • It's kind of amazing to me how no one knows Suarez's free agent status. I've heard it both ways. He's Schrodinger's baseball player.
    • Since JD Martinez has a career OPS of .950 in the postseason across 12 series and 151 plate appearances, I am sure our FO will have no use for him.  A veteran player who has experienced a lot of postseason success rarely helps young teams get to that next level.
