Imagine if DD had never made a waiver deadline trade?

I think he is a B overall during his tenure. His deadline deals minus the Miller deal have been awful. His free agent pitching signings of Ubaldo & Gallardo? Awful. Beyond that's he's been good adding depth and turning things around. Most overestimate or underestimate him. He's blah.

I have stated, I would replace him before he does more damage to what's left of the farm system. Just my opinion.

I just had another question about DD. How many players have been drafted under his watch that project as impact players?

So does Buck get a pass on this? To me he doesn't. He's the one who picked the major league pitching coaches, and I'm sure he had input into the decision to trade Arrieta.

The buck stops with DD. If Buck said he'll never amount to anything, he shares in the blame but DD could have overruled Buck, it is his decision to make. If Buck went to DD and said "get this guy outta here, I can't stand him", DD still could have sent him to Norfolk.

Kim is a prime example of what I'm talking about. Buck didn't want him on the roster but DD didn't give up on him. For that, I give DD credit.

Folks can go on about all of this. But this has been a team that has been playing for today since the moment Dan Duquette arrived. He has done well keeping the plane flying while throwing off first trash, then luggage, and some passengers. I for one was all on board with winning for a while.

Imagine if Dan Duquette was never hired, The O's might be on a 19 year losing streak.

You are absolutely right, because it is not Buck who is behind the winning, it is DD. DD's decision to make Britton the closer was genius (oh, that's right he didn't make that decision), his decision to not resign Andrew Miller was obviously right, his decision to trade Arrieta for a rental was right, and his decision not to overpay for FA starting pitching was wise. Most recently DD's decision to put Jones at lead-off was sheer genius.

LOL.

Some debate is it AM or DD the reason we are winning..we all know it is Buck. You need a competent GM and DD isn't bad but where in the world do you think we would be with DD as GM and another manager? If you think first or second place, you are crazy.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that others have to be overly sympathetic to your "plight." Hopefully, you will have some meaningful events in your life that will bring you way more happiness that an Orioles world championship will. And hopefully you will avoid tragedies that are worse than the Orioles not winning the championship.

You got that right. I hope he gets married and has children. And that no one that

is close to him has a horrible disease.

    • JD Martinez would be a more of the same kind of acquisition. He is not an impact bat and he is a periphery (around the margins) piece at this point. Why not set the bar higher and sign Alonso? Acquiring Pete Alonso allows you to move on from Mountcastle and put Mayo (where he belongs right now) DH. It also allows you to move on from O'Hearn.  Alonso gets everyday ABs and Mayo does. Those two things to a large degree help solve the lineup imbalance against LHP. I know Alonso will cost real money. But again who are we paying? The money is there. It's time to start using it (if we want to win in October).
    • Your full quote said to use him as a DH for 100+ games. If you are worried about him being covered through his injuries - how can you assume he wouldn't be injured at the end of the season, going into the playoffs?
    • Here’s an exercise… it’s the postseason and the bases are loaded. The Santa scenario. Who on our current roster would you rather have up over JD Martinez?  Same fact pattern as Santander’s AB.
    • I think the title of this thread told you his status
    • Why did you pare down my quote about it being for the post season and not just 162?  People, always so quick to clown someone. Lmao. Damn. At least use my whole quote bro.  If you think that we don’t need at least one proven playoff bat then that’s ok. My point is, that we have enough 1B/DH options to carry JD through his ups/downs/injuries over 162 for his experience, leadership, and playoff experience.  You can disagree, but quote me right.
    • It's kind of amazing to me how no one knows Suarez's free agent status. I've heard it both ways. He's Schrodinger's baseball player.
    • Since JD Martinez has a career OPS of .950 in the postseason across 12 series and 151 plate appearances, I am sure our FO will have no use for him.  A veteran player who has experienced a lot of postseason success rarely helps young teams get to that next level.
