Roster move to get Duensing off the 60 Day DL.

Its supposed to happen today. And DFAing Odrisamer Despaigne seems possible. He was not on the list for player that will go to Sarasota as the O's taxis squad. And there has been no talk for him being recalled. The move will not cost the O's any money.

The other possible move is to recall Chris Lee and place him of the 60 Day DL. But the O's would have to pay Lee the major league minimum (about 80K) to do that. Dan does pinch pennies at times which is part of his job.

Here is the list of players that will go to Sarasota:

The Orioles will have a group of minor league players work out in Sarasota beginning Sept. 9 to stay ready in case they?re needed down the stretch, the camp roster expected to include catcher Audry Perez, first baseman Trey Mancini, outfielders Christian Walker, Dariel Alvarez, Julio Borbon and Chris Dickerson, and pitchers T.J. McFarland, Parker Bridwell and Kyle Lobstein.

Catcher Chance Sisco could join the group if Perez is still bothered by an oblique injury.

Roch weighs in:

The Orioles must create a spot for Duensing on the 40-man roster. There?s a group of guys on the bubble that includes Odrisamer Despaigne, T.J. McFarland, Dariel Alvarez and Christian Walker. None of them have been recalled this month.

Double-A Bowie left-hander Chris Lee could be moved to the 60-day disabled list, but he?s has to be activated first and put on the major league DL. He?d receive major league pay and his clock would start and it?s just not going to happen.

Is TJM still on the 40 man? Or is Roch just confused?

Despsigne has two option years remaining. He pitched in Cuba in 2013. He begin the 2014 season in the minors but was promoted to the Padres during that year and stayed in the majors with them in 2015. His problem was control when he was called up by the O's. The O's optioned Despaigne several times in 2016.

McFarland is currently on the O's 40 man roster. He injured his knee and was on the DL for a while. When he came back he didn't pitch that well. He will be out for options next year and does not project to make the major league team next year out for ST. Therefore he is likely to be released this off season.

Here's the guy we traded for Despaigne http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=656329#/career/R/pitching/2016/ALL

Arguably would be in our top 20. I like to win and all but looking back on it Despaigne was nothing but an innings eater that Wilson, Wright or Gunkel could have done. Or any other vet swingman that was DFA'd during the season.

Even worse that Despaigne got released. I don't think it was a control problem. He was a nibbler that nibbled out of necessity because none of his 12 pitches were quality enough to get mlb hitters out. Mac has a chance to at least make it to ST and get a look. He is a Buck favorite it seems.

I don't think there is any doubt.

A little surprised that Alvarez was not recalled. Good pinch hitter against lefties and much better defensive outfielder than Trumbo or Reimold. i know they have Stubbs now and that probably made him redundant, but just a little surprised.

Stubbs won't even get used because he is behind beloved Nolan Reimold on the depth chart, so Alvarez would certainly never see the field.

Dan does not always keep Buck's favorites. Especially when they are marginal players. Options are very important in the pen.

Options are everything in the pen. It's the reason are run differential is out of whack compared to our wins. Buck and DD let the B squad relievers eat all the low leverage innings.

After thinking about it the only guys that will be out of options next year are Mac and whatever of the vet SP's that don't make the rotation.
