Yep, no other team with a high enough level of interest to force the O's out.

If it was me I would wonder why that is...

I don't think it's any kind of indictment on Trumbo himself... It's just that there are multiple players left on the table with nearly identical (and in some cases, more advanced) skill sets. Encarnacion is at the top of the heap, but Bautista and Chris Carter are very similar players to Mark Trumbo. There's more supply than demand at the moment.

Trumbo gets beaten up a lot on this board, just like Flacco, and everyone has their reasons.  But having lost Matt, I would really like to bring Trumbo back for a lot of reasons ..mostly to try and match up offensively with Boston and the rest of the AL East. Just my two cents.

He gets beaten up because he is an older, one tool player.  Nothing personal but he isn't the type of player you want to sink a lot of resources into.

Being able to take a step back and analyze his overall value has really brought me to the same conclusion.  His real value is probably 3/30 as strictly a DH and 3/36 if you want to play him at 1B.  He's not a RF'er.

Right now there is a glut of guys that can DH and play COF.  We don't have to panic and overpay for a guy.

I thought the O's offer of 4/52-55 was a very fair offer for him.  That's top dollar, IMO.  I'd be shocked if he gets more than that, and I'd prefer the O's let him walk if he does, as I'm not even sure their current offer is a good value for the team.  I'd rather just bring Alvarez back to DH and keep up the search for a RFer.

I, frankly, don't want anything to do with Trumbo. Woe to the team that gives him a bigger deal. Woe I say. He had an unbelievable first half and then cratered down the stretch something fierce.

I tend to agree with this. Never pay top dollar for a guy coming off a career year who only brings value in one way. Trumbo had way too many unproductive PAs for my liking, despite the fact that his Trumbombs were majestic to watch!

I also tend to lean this way too. Invest the dollars elsewhere.

Gotta let him walk at this point.  I feel like his value is replaceable as long as we sign a strong defensive option for RF along with some offensive value in our LF platoon and DH spot.  I trust Dan will find the value he needs to replace Trumbo.

Also, and more importantly, I think Dan has to remain creative with adding value to the minor league system as well.  We could really use another high round draft selection with Trumbo leaving.  By letting Trumbo walk, Dan can add value to a system that needs it (although I like the way we drafted the past two seasons; just need more high round selections), and I believe Dan has the assets to find the value he needs to replace Trumbo's 2016 production in 2017.

Finally, I truly believe Trumbo comes back to Earth this season, statistically speaking.

I'm starting to feel this way too. Bit, it seems Trumbo is still the Orioles main priority.

Who is the strong Defensive replacement? Other than Jason Heyward. Who would be available.

    • I don’t feel picked on — I didn’t offer much detail regarding the changes I am hoping for. If my initial post didn’t sound like it, I do have more patience (at least a little more) than most. It may take more than a minute to get depth in the bullpen or an offense that can adjust in crunch time. I get that. I’m not in the torches and pitchforks crowd, but the O’s can’t sit on their hands either. That’s closer to where I’m at.
    • I kept hoping, for the sake of my own enjoyment, that I'd eventually come around after having to look at it often enough, but, no, I still think it's ugly as sin. And I hate how it plays.
    • Yeah, but after he was called back up and changed his pitch mix, in his last 8 starts he had a 9.4 SO/9.
    • I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if he changed nothing in terms of strategy.  Look at what he traded recently right handed batters. I feel like it is more important to him to be innovative, and develop players that have been forgotten or have failed in the major leagues than it is to actually win a World Series. Obviously, that’s the end goal of all the things he’s doing, but he wants to do it in a way that looks innovative, and it looks like he knows more about the players that failed and how to fix them than any other person. I honestly believe that is why Hyde has been here so long. He does everything that he’s told and they don’t want to bring in a manager that won’t do that. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a lineup made up for him every day and I also wouldn’t be surprised if the whole game plan was planned out for him. What do you do when and where.. Obviously the numbers mean a lot in baseball and are extremely  helpful but they’re not everything.
    • I'll celebrate whoever we get in a high echelon of MLB talent, but unfortunately unpacking this season too soon I think I don't even really want to win the Burnes bidding. Elias will value the next half season of information on Felix, Grayson and Bradish to figure out who goes with Eflin.     The growth he showed this year winning the Burnes and Eflin trade markets adds confidence he'll staff the top of the pitching roster appropriately in July 2025. If he is very risk averse with Kremer, Povich and Suarez, people would flip out but people like Kyle Gibson, Patrick Corbin and Jose Quintana hit me as safe innings he might actually pursue.
    • The team's valuation only matters at time of sale. The owner's wealth in an uncapped sport like MLB determines how much the team can spend. Steve Cohen by any metric available has tons more millions to SPEND than Hal Steinbrenner. Steve Cohen has even operated at a deficit over 100 million before which I believe was in 2023. And most importantly he has the WILL to get into the deepest of pools when it comes to FA as he has already shown in his short time owning the Mets.
