Outside of Worley, I don't see it unless it's a Milb deal.

There are a few interesting people on this list though; mostly guys who used to be something but fell off from injuries or an unproductive season or two:

CJ Wilson, Niese, Jarrod Parker, Peavy, Fister, Latos, Lincecum, Henderson Alvarez, Medlan, Brett Anderson, Weaver, or our old buddies Hammell, Simon, or Feldman

Of this list, who has the best chance of rebounding and becoming a valuable piece again and who is old, done, or a lost cause.

I think you've got to consider the minor league depth at SP....Wright, Wilson, Verrett, Ohka, Gunkle, Lee...no names to be too excited for but it will be crowded in the Norfolk rotation. I think that removes a minor league deal for anyone though.

My guess is a swing man type. Vance Worley would be perfect.

I think they will save the money towards something else and have the best of Wright, Wilson, Verrett in the Vanimal spot.

Yea I don't disagree with that logic...but Worley is proven in that role while the others are not. I guess it depends on what kind of risk they want to take.

I definitely would take a flyer with CJ Wilson and Henderson Alvarez. Low risk, high reward. Smart gambles there IMO.

Not a big fan of Worley, he is best in low leverage situations only or as a spot starter. I would only sign him as a last choice or on a mil deal.

C.J. Wilson and Henderson Alvarez both have a big, big problem, which is shoulder surgery.  But hey, if the Orioles doctors clear them, they should absolutely be considered.

Doug Fister's ego might be hurt enough that he takes the long relief / spot starter role.

Out of that list of horrors, the one getting the most buzz is Travis Wood - having been linked to Toronto, Washington and Cincinnati.  He wants to start again... I don't know if he takes a relief role but he'd be a good fit as another lefty with BP experience.

I know the team is interested in "depth" i.e. long-reliever that can spot start, but there are still a good number of interesting strict relievers avaiable:

Aaron Barrett (29) - 111 ERA+, 10.8 K/9 in two seasons in Washington
Matt Belisle (37) - also Washington, 1.76 ERA, 1.087 WHIP last year
Joe Blanton (36) - 150 ERA+, 1.064 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 last two years as a reliever
Trevor Cahill (29) - 153 ERA+, 1.173 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 as a Cub
Santiago Casilla (36) - 1.190 WHIP, 10.1 K/9 last year, long time Giant
Neftali Feliz (29) - 119 ERA+, 1.137 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 last year for Pittsburgh
Luke Hochevar (33) - 113 ERA+, 1.193 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 last two years in KC
Greg Holland (31) - former "best reliever in the game"
Tommy Hunter (30) - our buddy, 147 ERA+, 1.265 WHIP last year
Jeff Manship (32) - 2.07 ERA, 219 ERA+, 1.113 WHIP last two years for Cleveland
Sergio Romo (34) - career 2.58 ERA, 147 ERA+, 0.955 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 and still pitching well
Shawn Tolleson (29) - one year removed from 10th place in Cy Young voting

I just gave a cool dozen, all righties, that could certainly compete with Oliver Drake at worst.

On the left side we've got slimmer pickings but Jerry Blevins, Charlie Furbush, Boone Logan and the aforementioned Travis Wood are still on the market.

I like Travis Wood.

I know other teams are interested but this would be such a great landing spot for Tyson Ross. We have the depth to ease him back into the rotation. And he really does have no 1 / 2 starter potential. When he's been good he's been REALLY good.

I have some interest in Fister too, but I don't see him signing unless we guarantee him a spot in the rotation.
