David Washington

David Washington is quietly putting up good numbers so far in Norfolk. His numbers against RHP are especially good. Against RHP, he currently has better numbers in Norfolk (which seems to suppress numbers) than he did in the PCL (bumps up numbers).

I would be interested in seeing him get a few platoon at bats in September and see if he can be an interesting stop-gap until other highly touted OF prospects are ready. I'm sure he could be just as good as Trumbo or Mancini in the field.

I don't know how minor league free agency works, but would he still be in the organization next year?

Washington is organizational depth, at best. He's 26. He's never seen the majors. He's not on the 40-man roster. He really isn't much of a fielder, at all - been playing first at Norfolk. Played first most of last year in the PCL.

It is highly unlikely he dons an O's cap this year.

I definitely agree that he is just depth right now, but if he keeps up this hot streak it might be worth it to give him a mlb at bat against RHP here and there in September. He is only a year or two older than a typical prospect at this level, but it's not like he hasn't had some success at every other level. Also he is outperforming what mancini did last year (very outperforming against opposite handed pitchers) although he will be 2 years older at this same level. You never know.  You might find out you have a cheap stopgap rather than paying for an expensive aging vet.

Considering the contract they gave Davis, I doubt he is going anywhere.

The only way I see Washington getting is in September if he continues, some team needs a first baseman come the deadline and think he could help, or Davis gets some injury or something that causes him to miss the season or significant time.

He's too much like we already have.  Heck Pedro Alvarez can't even get MLB AB's.  Let that sink in.  This guy has nowhere near the track record that Alvarez has.  He's just org. depth.  Nothing personal.  But things will have gone terribly wrong if he's playing for us ever.

This is kind of funny now. Things have gone terribly wrong.
