Better track record than Trumbo, I probably wouldn’t like it if the O’s did it, but it’s reasonable. Bruce’s knee injury seemed to suppress his performance some.

I have to disagree. Not much.

I just don't understand the Mets. The spent the better part of 2017 trying to trade Jay Bruce and now they bring him back? I know they need power, but man oh man i don't know if Bruce on a three year deal is the answer. This just screams Mark Trumbo signing 2.0.

I think they were just out of it and have one of worst farm systems so thought he was one of their few trade pieces.

Not sure if you remember, but they were looking to trade him in spring training too. He was basically on the trading block all year. Just seems like the Mets are always shooting from the hip with their moves with no clear long term direction.

Kinda like DD. No long term direction for the O's.

The deal doesn't make sense to me from a short-term perspective either. Part of the reason they were shopping him last off season was a poor performance after they got him and the fact that their team was overloaded with corner outfielders. Yes, Granderson is gone, but they're still overloaded with corner bats with plenty of other holes. They don't have a CF. Lagares cannot play everyday and Conforto is not a CF. They don't have a 1B (Dominic Smith might be the guy, but was out of shape and struggled last year). They have Asdrubal Cabrera for 2B or 3B, but need someone for the other spot. Travis d'Arnaud is not an everyday catcher. They also have questions in the rotation after Syndergaard and deGrom, Harvey, Matz, Wheeler, Lugo, Gsellman is better depth than we have, but they're also significant questions. The Mets have a lot of needs, but corner OF wasn't one of them.

They were trying to trade him in spring training because he’d been pretty awful for them after they traded for him at the 2016 deadline, and hadn’t been that good in the previous couple of seasons.    But then he turned around and had a pretty good year for them in 2017; trading him at the deadline still made sense because the Mets were out of it.   I guess they were enamored of his 2017 performance and are hopeful he can repeat it.    Not a good bet, but I don’t find it inconsistent with their efforts to trade him last year.
