Really, the only thing they can do at this point is use off-days to skip the fifth starter and use a spot starter the rest of the time. There are no solutions to this problem.

Yeah, and somehow, not counting the day after Opening Day, we have ONE off day between the start of the season and the last day of April.   As few as  any team in MLB and fewer than the vast majority.   I don't know how that happens.   But we'll have more than any other team the last five months I guess.

Of course the weather is likely to give us some this weekend.

No, it's sad that the Orioles didn't make the proper assessment on him after last season and then in the spring. It's embarrassing.

Yes. How did they not make sure he was able to deliver pitches with sound mechanics before signing him? Jim Palmer reminds us every inning he pitches how Chris is just not getting over top of the ball. It's keeping everything belt high, and giving his fastball that little cut where he can't locate at all. Same as last year.

How was this not noticed before his resigning? Did they not watch a showcase of him and just cross their fingers hoping he would be better?

I don't think anybody here knows who was responsible for the decision to resign him. We have at least a 5 headed colossus making personnel selections. Who was it? Please raise your hand so we could know who to congratulate or blame.

One of Duquette's best qualities (at least apparently to me) is his lack of sentimentality.  I don't see him as having the slightest use for Tillman in 2018 - something he would have decided long before Tillman was ultimately re-signed.  You're right, we don't know who, but I think it's unlikely it was DD's idea, much less desire.

You could be right, but the GM gets the blame in my book anyway.  Dan’s name is still on the GM door.  Until he comes out  and says “You know what, I didn’t have anything to do with that”, then he gets tagged with it.  If he is going to stay in a job where he doesn’t make any significant decisions just for the money, then he gets the blame too.   Package deal.

I’m sure he is going to throw other people under the bus. Great way to get a job elsewhere.

Tillman is clearly un-fixable based on how wide he misses the strike zone. By the time kid pitchers are on Pony league teams, they throw a lower percentage of pitches that miss the strike zone by 12 inches or more than Tillman has been over the past year-plus. Whether that is current painful injury or permanent damage injury, the man is physically incapable of doing his job successfully.

Plus the GD 11am Boston Marathon game AGAIN!

    • This is our best hope.  Root for the Rangers to fall apart and add 3 more starters to the market (and result in less need to overpay). Lots of good options on that staff!
    • Agreed. Forbearing a major trade, we don't have much of a choice but to let Povich make his next start. I doubt McDermott is going to be meaningfully better, and Povich was pretty good in his preceding four starts.
    • Povich should be fresh after only throwing 41 terrible pitches yesterday so he'll most likely get the start.  There is no true alternative in AAA to Povich since the next guy in line is McDermott and he got one out yesterday in his start against the Durham Bulls. Bad starts happen. Let's see what Povich is made up of by seeing hiw he bounces back fro that disastrous start.  Hopefully after the All-Star break Elias will make a move for a true impact starter and reliever.
    • I wonder what he would get on the open market? You see a lot of sign and trade deals in basketball (I know, a different purpose and mechanism than this), but if you think that arbitration number is supported by the market maybe there’s a chance of swinging a deal with him in the offseason, as part of a package or a lottery ticket return.
    • I just thought I'd throw my two cents in here and a little moderating. First, Roy is Roy. He's here as a fan and to give his take. Most of the stuff I read from him reminds me of the great quote from Terrance Mann in Field of Dreams, "I wish I had your passion, (Roy)... Misdirected though it might be, it is still a passion." What is misdirected even more is when people attack Roy for anything other than his opinion. Feel free to disagree with Roy. Feel free to think Roy is off base in his reactions or posts, but do not make it personal. Roy is a friend of mine and this site, and while I may not always (or rarely) agree with his harbingers of disaster, he has every right to express his opinions. What he doesn't need is someone questioning his writing style or grammar or saying they expect more. That's a bunch of personal BS that I don't appreciate. One of the moderators here gave someone a few days break because they personally attacked him. I support that and not just because he's Roy Firestone, but because he's one of us here. He's a long time passionate Orioles fan and that's all he wants to be here so let's not start talking about his journalistic integrity or writing style. Again, feel free to disagree with Roy. Heck, I completely disagree with this take besides the fact that we all know that this team needs to add at least one starter and one or two impact bullpen arms.  But as it was stated by a few on here already, this team is on pace to win well over 100 games despite losing 4 out of their 5 projected starters at some point, and losing 3 starters for the year.  The Orioles are not going to win every game. A 100 win team is going lose 62 games a year. The world is not going to end over one game. Whether the teams loses by 1 run or 11, it counts as one game and today they start 0-0 at the beginning of the game.
