Ryan Minor and Calvin Pickering were going to be an AMAZING middle of the order.

Jeff Fiorentino was going to be a very good major leaguer.

Finally...

The Orioles were going to sign: Randy Johnson, Mo Vaughn, Vlad, Hideki Matsui, Carlos Lee, Carlos Beltran...

I believed Peter Angelos when he talked (in 1996 or 1997) about an Orioles Dynasty that would match the Yankees Dynasties of years past.

Personally, I'm still not convinced.

In no particular order:

1. I thought that the O's pitching was set for a decade Atlanta Braves style when we had a young Ben Mcdonald, Mike Mussina, Gregg Olson, Arthur Rhodes and a few others.

2. I thought that Jeffrey Hammonds was going to be a star on a Ken Griffey (Jr) scale.

3. Speaking of Griffey, I thought he would eventually break the all time hr record.

4. I thought Larry Sheets and Mike Young would be solid run producers for the Orioles for a 5-10 year stretch.

5. I thought David Segui would be a decent player for some time as well. I loved his glove and while I thought that he wouldn't hit for power, that he could hit near .300.

6. While Mike Boddicker had a pretty good career, I thought that he would be better than he ended up being.

7. I thought Jon Miller would broadcast Orioles games for a long time and would become associated with the Orioles the way that say, Vin Scully is associated with the Dodgers.

He stills shows signs of his old self, but the improvement this year is real. Hats off to Kranny?

I thought Jay Gibbons was to be a long time Oriole and have 50 HR seasons...

I thought the numbers Javy put up in his first season would happen for at least 2 more...

I remember being a teenager watching Leo Gomez/Chris Hoiles/Juan Bell playing in Rochester and thinking how dominant a team we would have in Baltimore in a few years.

At least Hoiles panned out.

I wanted us to acquire Wily Mo Pena. He reminded me of Albert Belle - just less surly according to teammates. This year he remind me of Paul Bako on roids.
