How convenient.  Nice of him to be so "accommodating."  He's an awful shortstop at this point, and it would have been hilarious if he had decided to bully himself into staying at short.  Good for him and especially good for the Padres that he's going back to third, where everyone and their brother knows he's easily a much better defender.

He wasn’t awful for the Dodgers.   He wasn’t awful for us when he started 43 games at SS in 2016 while Hardy was out.   I think he’s perfectly capable of playing well at SS.     But he’s better at 3B and the Padres have a top SS prospect who will be in the majors soon, who will be a much better SS than Tim Beckham was.

Also, I believe Flaherty playing 3rd was far more better for the team than Flaherty playing SS.

Just in case anyone forgot just how great he was at 3rd base.

Watching this made me want to cry.    By some miracle, I was able to root for a team that had both Brooks and Manny at 3B.    Lightning struck twice.   I don’t expect to see my team have that level of defense at 3B ever again.

I only saw Brooks play once, in I believe the 1983 Cracker Jack Old Timers Game at RFK.  He made a diving catch of a line drive.  But I did get to see Manny make a bunch of Brooks plays.

Worry not, in 5 years we will get him back to help us defend our World Series Championship.  ?

That play at 4:12 truly seems impossible.

San Diego seems like a great fit for Manny. And selfishly the Padres are so nondescript that being a Manny fan as well as an Orioles fan should be quite easy.

I sure will miss him and I'm not even sure it's hit me all the way yet that he's gone. Pretty much checked out from watching games last season after the miserable start.

It would have been insane for the Orioles to match the SD offer.  And honestly, if Manny has any interest in winning anytime soon, he would have still taken the SD offer even if the Orioles had matched.  SD has the #1 farm system in the MLB.  The Orioles are in the bottom third even after trading Manny and all those other guys at last year's deadline.

I’m not saying it makes sense for the Orioles to sign him or that I’d even want them too. I’ve posted a few times here that I don’t think he’s worth it.

My question is more so of wondering if he wanted the east coast that bad or if he would have bolted for SD with matching offers.

Some really nice efforts from Davis in those clips. I miss seeing them win.

The "Don't throw it away...don't throw it at all!" play might be the best, most heads up play I've ever seen.  The amount of balls that a 20 year old converted SS had to pull that off in the middle of a pennant run is absurd.

You'll never see another play like that again.

Toss up between that one and Jeter's game-saving play in the play-offs on the errant throw in foul territory off the fist base line to get the guy at home.  Still no idea what he was even doing there.  I don't really like Jeter, and never thought he was a particularly good shortstop, but that play was amazing, IMO.
