I don’t get the love for the guy. If Swihart wasn’t with the Red Sox would be ever have been considered a top prospect?

27 years old and hasn’t put up stats at any level in 5 years. The Orioles can do better.

People were making jokes about Swihart being an Oriole (on Twitter) as soon as he was dropped. And I agree with the poster who said Swihart won't clear waivers. 

The Marlin's have also promised some "big" moves today which leads me to think they might DFA Wei Yin Chen. If they do I'm thinking that might set a precedent for the O's eating Davis' contract when he inevitably slumps again. Chen's adjusted salary through 2021 is $58M versus Davis who's adjusted salary through 2022 is roughly $84M.

Hmm would the Orioles claim Chen to help  the starting rotation to eat innings this year. ?

Chen might be damaged goods at this point.

I was corrected about part of it. Until April 30th, the order is based on last season. After April 30th, it is based on current season. So it can change game by game.

Not sure, but I'm not it's so much that he's damaged goods it's that the Marlins seem to be really committed to letting their young SPs play and there doesn't appear to be room for him. They might not all work out, but they have a stable of some very good young arms with upside. Trevor Richards, Caleb Joseph, Pablo Lopez, Sandy Alcantara, etc.

Sucre is nearly a 4A player and perhaps a back up because he has no bat. Severino was a nice grab due to availability but should not block this move. I would look to trade the AAA backup (I can remember his name Perez?)

His MLB career OPS of .679 would be like 5th best on our team.

Which is mostly bolstered by Swihart's first two seasons with the Red Sox. His OPS since 2017 is .624.  I would rather ride with the current guys on the 40 man roster.

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.You should never get something that merely duplicates what you already have. And Swihart Apparently isn’t even as good as what we already have. Plus, adding him would require dumping somebody from the roster, and we’ve already done that. MoveOn folks, nothing to see here.

You dismiss his first two season but dont mention his injury in 2017.  Seems like selective bias.

I’m not sure he’s duplicative. We have two glove first catchers with limited upside now. Swihart is a former top prospect who switch hits, was projected as a plus bat with adequate or average defensive skills.

      Some time in the 2010's, I heard Sam Miller on Effectively Wild guess by 2050 starting and relieving as baseball has known them would mostly go extinct save for perhaps the best 20-30 talents (maybe think Kyle Bradish on up these days). Living through it, we'll get to see our Orioles contribute a verse as they scientifically curate the careers of Grayson Rodriguez, Chayce McDermott, Luis De Leon and others. Cade Povich with a strong assortment of benders and not a huge fastball for me is trending towards the Kyle Gibson way of leading his team in regular season innings pitched and being a marginal Start/Sit if his team makes the postseason. With good fortune by the end of 2026 Cade Povich will be almost as prominent an MLBPA member as Grayson Rodriguez as the players collaborate on negotiating priorities.    Like say maybe...the club's current opportunity to make a pitcher's 6.000 years of team control take up 7-8 years of their baseball lives in the best case scenario because they "aren't built up" to be Roy Halladay.

      A lot of guys on that list have also just had a very hard time staying healthy.  Haskin has done some good things but missed a lot of time.  Servideo missed a lot of time.  Ardoin actually has had a decent career so far for a 4th rounder. Reed Trimble is another guy that just can't stay on the field.  Looks like he made it about 2 weeks this year before going on the IL yet again.  Not sure what the injury is (yes RZ I did google it :))

      What a bummer, especially means. Glad we got to see some vintage Means in his first start back. I'd love to bring him back on a two year deal

      What he's been able to do at the plate has been a nice pick-me-up for the a team that has had multiple hitters struggling at the same time. For me though, watching how he's handled 2B this season has been a treat. The tag on the SB attempt last night was a play that not all 2B make.    There's been times I would have traded or released him for nothing, but right now I'm really glad he's still here.

      If he stays right where he is right now hitting .245, he has very nice value. On pace for a 3-4 war season. As a secondary piece, that’s huge.

      Adding relievers should be the priority, but that doesn't mean Elias won't look to strengthen our staff or add a hitter as well.  I'm not expecting us to trade for Luzardo, but it's a possibility with the injuries that our staff has been through.
