But seriously, it depends on the year. 1-1 this year got us a guy who was considered head and shoulders above the rest. I'm no draft expert but people are saying next year is more muddled. No clear favorite. So 1-4 might work out fine.

I would love to see Givens, Castro and Bleier all rebuild their value for Winter trades. I think some of Hyde’s handling of the pen has been rough at times in regards to these guys. I want to see Bund

I’d like to see the Bowie rotation finish out as strongly as they’ve been performing to date.    The Norfolk rotation has been a disaster and I’d like to see some actual prospects in Norfolk’s rotatio

Also number 1-25 got you Mike Trout in 2009. The MLB draft is very different than the NBA and NFL and is far from an exact science. Going 1-1 in the NBA and NFL usually means you should be an all pro level player. That can't be said about the MLB draft.

Like others have stated, I'd like to see the continued development of guys like Hall, Rodriguez, , etc.

I definitely do NOT want to see this team tank the rest of the season.   We will still be in the top 3 or 4 picks in the draft, and I'm OK with that.   I actually like watching this team now.   Also, a strong output by Givens, Bundy, Villar and Mancini could make them movable in the offseason. 

 

 

 

I wouldn't be so sure. Detroit, KC, and Toronto are really bad. And you can never count Miami out. Ideally, I'd like us to win as many games as possible, but I respect everyone's focus on the long view; I'd be content with a top-5 selection if it came down to that. 

Agree with much of this post, BTW; I'm interested in seeing likewise for the most part. That said, I know many have had it with Chris, but I'm not one of them. I'll stay hoping that the light comes back on, even if it's now 75 watts and no longer 100. He's flickered at times this season, for sure. 

I also hope for strong finishes by the latter four players mentioned, although for me, it's so that they can finish on a high note and possibly gain just that much more of a confidence boost heading into '20, not to trade any of them.

But again, I know it's about the big picture and my head often needs to remind my heart of that. (I still adamantly don't want us to deal Trey, though.)

O's have never picked second so I didn't have an Oriole example to use.

Well, I agree with the point that there are better odds of making a good pick at no. 2 vs. no. 4.

No. 2: 46 out of 55 have made the majors; 708 WAR total.

No. 4: 44 out of 55 have made the majors; 572 WAR total.

I want to see the lineup below on OD, so I want the stuff that has to go right to make that happen. 

Means, Bundy, Cobb, Wojo, Akin

Givens, Armstrong, Fry, Harvey, Tate, Scott, Bleier, Brooks/Eshelman/Yac/Hess

I want to see our young relievers given a chance in classic reliever roles.  So we need an 8 man pen with milb vet SP types to be shuttled up/down all year to take the beatings.

Villar SS, Mancini LF, Santander RF, Nunez DH, Mountcastle 1B, Sisco/Severino C, Alberto 2B, Peterson 3B, Hays CF

Sisco/Severino, Wilkerson, Smith/Stewart

I think that’s an above average offense in MLB. Below average defensively. Below average rotation. Bullpen has potential to be average, if workload isn’t too much. 

Maybe a 60-65 win team?

      Not really. What SP are you taking off for him?   It seems like our guys reached some theoretical milestones of being an all star but they did a 2-3 deep at each position. Picked the players based solely on that position and not versus the entire position group. For Ex. It was DH v DH. 2B v 2B. COF v COF.  The only gripes are possibly, Westburg vs Peredes but the one player from each team rule.  Santander vs OF but they need guys that can play CF.  Kimbrel vs Holmes maybe here but Kimbrel getting demoted and not spreading out his rough outings affected perception.  Do they still do the last player in vote?  If so, Santa and Westburg could be on the ballot?

      Well the NFL Rams franchise deserves some mention as they started in Cleveland in 1937, moved to LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2016.  Fascinating that in each stop they have won a season’s ultimate prize (either NFL championship or Super Bowl)!       I still say crochet isn’t traded. It makes sense for Chicago to trade him but they could still get a ton for him in the offseason or at the deadline next year if things go right. I do not feel his value is at its peak right now BUT his value does risk to take a huge drop if they don’t trade him. It’s not an easy spot to be in for anyone involved in this decision.

      I don’t think many/any want or are eager to get rid of any of our very talented young players/prospects. However, I for one, am even less eager to see us roll with the pitching staff as is. The question/dilemma is what is the right amount of talent to acquire this year (and potentially beyond given the state of the rotation) to give us the best shot possible to be successful in October? And how to we balance that against our future potential/possibilities that some of the young players provide. It’s a very precarious position that Elias is in. We all hope that he makes great decisions that lead to both success now and in the future. But I get where you are coming from Kjerstad seems to have an elite power tool as the ball seems to really carry off of his bat.

      I’m disappointed more O’s didn’t get in, but it’s hardly the biggest travesty in all star history, so, shrug. Jim Palmer mentioned on the broadcast that he didn’t make the All Star team two of the three times he won the Cy Young.

      I get that everybody wants the best of both worlds. But 2 questions: 1) What would be the plan for the pitching next year if we just went the rental/shortest term route? 2) Is Quantrill a guy that you trust making postseason starts? If so, what gives you confidence in him?
