Not sure if it’s been shared already, but saw this and thought he would totally make sense as someone to target in the offseason. Cardinals are looking to reduce payroll, though not sure what a reasonable offer looks like for a 35 year old pitcher making 25 million a year for the next two years. A very light free agent class this year. Someone will definitely overpay for Burnes and I hope it’s not the Orioles. Severino, Buehler, Bieber and Max Fried are also intriguing. I was looking that up too. He was in the bullpen throughout 2018 brewers run. Had a very solid first playoff start in 2021, then a not so good one in 2023 as you posted. Postseason is a different animal, and he’s got some experience, but he’s not proven in the playoffs. Time to make that money Corbin! -

Maybe for the sheer brilliance. fWAR only has Cease, C. Sanchez and Webb with about 10% more of their counting stat in about 40-50% more innings. B-Ref sees the top 3 and Hunter Greene as nearly tied 6-win pitchers. -

I like Last 4 Years results for debating who the best pitcher is because I think guys like Strider or Skubal need to sustain for at least a couple years. After this year I'd probably have to give it to Skenes if his arm doesn't explode in 30 real starts next year. I just looked it up and Wheeler-Burnes 1-2 on fWAR have matching 2.94 ERA's. One has 757 innings and one has 758 innings. Post-COVID, the world's best pitchers on top teams look like they give you about 190 innings. I can think of a good, proper way to settle this. -

You think Skenes is a finalist without qualifying for the ERA title? I recall that Burnes' 167 IP Cy Young was the least ever IP for a starter to win it. I wonder the least by a starter to finish in the top three. -
