Why publicly promote something that isn't open to the public? The Orioles season ticket marketing references special events for season ticket holders, seems like that should be sufficient public facing marketing.

I went.  Showed up a few minutes before 11, I’d estimate about 200 there at that point.  Got a free blanket, enjoyed Santa Bird and the statues, got a DD card and some other freebies and saved a bundl

I really enjoyed the event last year at Sagamore. Everyone in attendance got an autographed Jonathan Villar baseball.

Maybe they will be giving out Dylan Bundy Balls tonight.

I can see a problem with publicizing events held "at venues that are open to the public." But I can see a benefit in publicizing all events to drive interest in the team, to sell tickets as C_o_c said, and to promote a need or desirability in non-season ticket holders to pay to attend another ticketed event.

And I am a believer in the adage, "there is no such thing as bad publicity." With how interest in the Orioles has waned, this team can use all the publicity it can get, even if it's just self-promotion.

Personally, I’ve never paid for an autograph, nor have I sought any autographs since I was about 13 years old.   But, why would you want Hays’ autograph?    I assume because if he turns into a solid player, it would be a nice thing to have.    And maybe even worth $45.

I wouldn't pay $45 for anyone's autograph.  But if you wanted it because he became a solid player probably be better to wait until he became one to get the autograph.  I wonder what Brian Matusz autograph is worth today.

I have only gotten one person's autograph in my life.  I got Robert Smith's autograph back in the 80's.  I think getting someones autograph was just an excuse to meet the person. I think today I would just prefer a photo.   Someone like Adam Jones I would pay something to charity to get a photo with him.  Certainly wouldn't pay him as he has made a lot more money than he will ever need. 

As for Austin Hays I don't want a photo with him.  He is just some guy who is trying to make it to major leagues. Boog gives out autographs and photos for free.    And he won an MVP and a World Series.

As someone who does get autographs, I usually get them from players I enjoy watching play, or, in the case of last years FanFest vouchers, players who had a legacy. If they turn out to be a great player, cool.

I got Muhammad Ali’s autograph when I was 14, while he was eating in a restaurant with a small entourage.   He didn’t charge me a dime.   It was right during the time of his classic matchups with Joe Frazier.    I’m sure he signed hundreds of autographs daily.

I have four, Ozzie Smith, David Wells, Joe Gibbs and Ziggy Marley.  All four were gifts and I don't know where any of them are at the moment.  Never felt the slightest urge to get one for myself.

The non-baseball ones are signed books.

      Yes my mistake I thought those were eligible. They may be eligible after winter meetings. Manfred seems to like the idea of making more picks available for trade.

      I always compare where we are in attendance to payroll. As it stands our attendance will be 19th in the league and payroll 22nd. The Twins are at 19th with 130 million dollar payroll which is 22 million higher than ours. I expect the Nats and Tigers to spend a little this offseason so that 130 million mark for 19th place may move closer to 140. Still gives this team 50-60 million to spend on either resigning guys or free agents.

      Well, the changes to the flex plans this year led both me ($1200 plan) and my friend ($2500 plan) to not renew for next year. The decision to more severely limit playoff presale access and dramatically reduce the discount on food and drinks at the park just didn’t make it worth it to tie up that much money in advance. So, we’ll likely go to far fewer games next year. Given the press reports and online reaction, I have to think we weren’t alone in our decision making.

      Yeah. I don’t get that either. SEA would win head to head tie with HOU and push HOU into WC race but it’s irrelevant if the loses don’t match.

      Regardless of how down I've been about their recent play, there's always been some hope. Getting some guys back in time for the post season will definitely help.    The way this team has been built requires a group effort. I mean,  Gunnar is a huge star, but the lineup when healthy can be competitive top to bottom. I'm not knocking NY here, but if you can eliminate Judge(almost impossible), you stand a chance vs them. I'm not implying that they will go on a deep run because we've seen how bad it can be, but simply saying that getting healthy and having a shot is the best we as fans could have hoped for with the way this season has gone.
