About 2100, vs 2450 for Bundy.

Although Stewart probably has an extra tick or maybe two.

If teams have figured out how to increase fastball spin other than grip substances (which pretty much everyone already uses), it’s not something that I’m aware of.

The only spin efficiency numbers that are public are the Statcast “active spin” and that doesn’t distinguish 2S/sinkers from 4S fastballs. But there may be a spin efficiency issue, his active spin is listed as 73.6% and the pitch had only 6-7in of vertical rise (not counting the effect of gravity. Drew Smyly who has similar 4S fastball spin axis and spin rate but 92.7% active spin has 9-10 inches of vertical action.

Good stuff! Thanks. I like this move, solid upside with limited risk. I wonder about his health.

Because Kohl Stewart was the 4th selection in the draft overall he has been groomed as a starter.   Expected to go 6 innings.   It will be interesting to see if the O's move him to a  long reliever/follower in a piggyback arrangement were is he is expected to go 3 or 4 innings would  help his velocity on the sinker.

Or lessen or eliminate use of the sinker, increase usage of the slider and hope they can upgrade the 4 seam.

Did Diplan clear waivers?

I don't know if he has even been put on waivers yet.    When a player is DFA'd  the team has 10 days to trade, or ask for waiver the player.  Sometimes they use the first 7 days to see if they can find a trade.    If that doesn't work they put him on waivers which normally takes 3 days.

Diplan was DFA'd on Dec 29th.   The O's have until Jan 8th the determine what happens to him.

Or they could  have put him on waivers right away and then we could know any day now.

I’d think on a player like Diplan there would be little reason to wait.      We obtained him by claiming him off waivers from Detroit.    There’s no chance anyone is trading anything for him.

Although there are a ton of DFA candidates on the 40-man, Diplan makes sense here because he's unlikely to crack the bullpen and make a ML impact this season IMO. But he is a good project arm to have in the minors, so I hope he slips through.

Me too.

Who knows.  If a NL team wants him they may trade for him rather then take the chance he gets claimed in the AL.

I'm thinking there's a good chance Diplan clears.  Only these teams have 40 man roster spots open,

1 spot open - TB, Oak, Sea, Cubs, LAD

2 spots open - ATL

6 spots open - WSH

40 man rosters around the league are pretty snug at this time of the year.  I don't see any team that sees themselves as a contender picking him up.
