And when those guys are worse than he is people will be screaming that they were rushed and not ready. Those 3 AA pitchers are not likely to come up and pitch to a 4.71 ERA in their first 5 starts against 3 of the best offenses in the league.

So what's the harm in having them pitch now? If they can't handle the ML hitting, then you can just send them back to the minors next season. It's not like they can be any worse than what we have now. Berken is 12-3 with a 3.37 ERA. To me that seems like he can at least go 6 innings with a 4.00-4.50 ERA. And the same goes for Bergesen. Hernandez is a bit of a WC but with his ability to miss bats, it might not be bad to see what he can do as a starter. Those three pitchers are the most ML ready in the organization at this point. We have nothing to lose.

Yes they could be worse. Garrett Olson absolutely dominated AAA hitting in the first month and has looked great there the last two years, but hasn't done squat up here. They could absolutely be worse, then people will be hollering about rushing them and ruining their confidence.

I won't be one of them. We have nothing to lose by running them out there. At least they'd be getting a taste of ML pitching which would be more than they would get in ST. And we'd be watching starting pitchers with a future, rather than retreads or pitchers that should be in the bullpen.
