We need to pay particular attention to what happens with Jorge Mateo or Franklin Barretto in Oakland.  They are out of options and may be squeezed on a very competitive A's roster.

Echoed.  I heard beat reporter Susan Slusser on the FG team preview podcast call Kemp the favorite.  Their lineup except Olson is exclusively RHH, so Kemp gets the edge on Barreto/Mateo there.  Plus they have Neuse hopelessly blocked by Chapman so they had him goofing with 2B Moustakas style last September.  And they took a Rule V infielder.

Hanser Alberto might be Oakland's fourth string 2B.

I am almost positive Oakland will keep whichever of Barreto/Mateo they like best to succeed Semien, who despite being beloved has likely played his way out of their price range.

MLBTR has summarized:

The Tigers have Schoop, so if I'm figuring correctly we should have a shot at first claim if we want.  Perhaps Luke is thinking of just the right lowball token guy right now.

Good thoughts. These are the situations I hope we “exploit” while we’re rebuilding. We could potentially trade Givens for Neuse and one of Mateo/Barretto.

I would love to get Mateo and Neuse and give them a shot at 2B and 3B. The problem is, would Givens be enough for them to bite? I know there is a roster crunch concern here, but I'd have to imagine they'd be able to offer this package around and get some interest from other rebuilding teams as well.

The Dodgers DFA’d prospect Yadier Alvarez. He’s 23. Will be 24 in a few days though.

Alvarez’s name was mentioned here for years as a possible return in deals for Britton and Machado.

The dodgers had placed him on the restricted list for missing a bunch of “practices”, then apparently he just didn’t want to pitch in ST yesterday. He’s obviously going through some issues, which he tried to get help with this offseason. The Dodgers are in win now mode and need their 40 man spots. A change of scenery can work wonders.
