38% of the O's team could be over 30

I see no problem with this. It allows the younger guys time to really dominate AAA, and work on things. We will be a better org in the long run. Plus...

Millone and Leblanc, are just here to eat innings.

Cobb and Davis, are holdovers from our last “run” with immovable contracts.

Givens is barely 30. He’ll be dealt at the deadline.

Holaday gives Sisco the opportunity to work on his offense and defense in AAA. He can relax and tinker with things.

Isglesias is a stop gap, stabling influence at SS, where we have no depth.

However, Elias has sent a 25  and 26 year old packing.   That would seem to mean he cares about how competitive the 2020 team will be.

You mean the Rule 5 guys?  Doesn't sending them packing just indicate that he thinks they're not going to be long term pieces, so there's no sense in taking the extra short-term hit in performance to hold on to someone they don't think is ever going to be good?

Sisco may make the team, But it won’t be because he deserves to.

So why would he make the team?  Compromising photographs of Rick Dempsey?  Information tying Angelos to the Kennedy assassination?

I think the reality is that he'll make the team if the O's think he's deserving, whether or not you share that opinion.

Careful there.  You're starting to stray into that 'political' area.  You know what happens when that happens to be happening when eventually it does happen.  And it will happen cause it happens.

I don’t think he will make the team because his offense and defense are both bad. I think he should go down and learn a new position.

However, it’s possible that the Powers will decide that he may as well take his lumps in MLB because who cares whether his offense and defense are bad, may as well develop his eye against major league hitters. So if he makes it, it won’t be because he deserves to, but because the team wants him to play against MLB competition.

Isn't "we think he will grow into a productive major leaguer based on his current skill set and potential" deserving?

Philip doesn’t like Sisco.    I don’t mean personally, he just doesn’t like his skill set. I’ve advocated patience with Sisco, but if Holaday clearly beats him out, so be it.   I expect that decision to be made at the very end of spring training.

Not that it means he has made the team but Hyde was gushing about him yesterday before the game.

Quote

“I heard really good things about Bryan Holaday before camp started,” Hyde said. “Didn’t know him real well, seen him play a little bit, but I’ve been really impressed.

“This is a veteran leader. He’s really engaged with what our pitchers are doing. He’s done a really nice job of helping our pitchers get through innings. He can really call a game. And I think his at-bats have been pretty good, too.

“He’s just got a lot of experience. He’s caught really good pitchers, especially his early days in Detroit. He’s a veteran leader possibility, a guy that we don’t have a ton of experience in our clubhouse and that’s definitely on his side.”
