NEW 60 GAME Proposal [Baseball is Back!]

10 off days in 60 games is a lot. They could easily play 70 in the same amount of time by cutting the off days in half and playing a few double headers. Or reduce Spring Training by a few days.

Players probably don’t consider a 60 game season to be a good faith negotiation. I’d ask for another ten games in exchange for not filing a grievance.

I would think they want some open days in case a few players get it and they have to move players around from where they are doing extended spring training and come up and fill in.

Owners don't want to lose money due to the limited revenue available with no fans buying tickets.

Players Union wants full prorated salaries.

Since the break even appears to be a 50-60 game regular season there is no hurry to get an agreement.

The real money is in the playoffs if teams can stay healthy enough to play them.   Since the O's will not be part of the playoffs I have no interest in them.

Everything else is window dressing IMO.

It will be interesting to see if 16 playoff teams ever gets put down once it is picked up for this emergency.

Curious to see if it will end up as simple as 15 x 4 in your division?

Assume travel prohibits a balanced schedule, but if there were interdivisional play among AL and NL clubs, I'd be tempted to say at a 60-game season, do it pre-divisional old school and just have a World Series.  The Dodgers would ruin that over 162, but somebody could perhaps keep up for 60.  Give ESPN and/or MLB a national game all September - I'd love to get to see if ratings over 10-14 intense days building up to "The Giants Win The Pennant" could beat Best of 3 and Best of 5 stuff between the Yankees and Rangers.

Believe me, it's very obvious you don't like the Orioles. You have a near constant aversion to logic when it comes to your feelings toward the Orioles so there is no pleasing you. Just the other day I saw you admit that paying high dollar free agents like Mike Trout is mostly foolish and not a great way to build a team and in the same breath you spent the past two season complaining every day the Os didn't sign some bum has-been to try to win 70 games. Personally i think your entire persona on this board is an elaborate troll and your steadfast pursuit of being needlessly contrarian is impressive. I mean, if you honestly would rather have non-televised soccer be played in Camden Yards than the Orioles, why are you even here?!

LOL I never said sign high dollar players.  I would like if they made any effort at all instead of putting a team worse than even last years.  We don’t have soccer here.  If it were here I would go to the games.  I go to Ravens games.  I used to go to Capital games but I don’t feel like driving to DC anymore. If we had NBA, NHL, or MLS team I would watch them.  I a, not sure why anyone would be excited about the roster we have,

Not getting my hopes up that they're getting closer.

With the owners offer I see zero reason for baseball not to happen.  The players want more games because they are desperate for as much money as possible.  They are going to agree to something.

    • Goes without saying a split rest of way keeps Orioles up one game at break and also means they would be up 6-4 in season standings. Win both you clinch season series. Play at NYY 3 games with 6 games to go. Just avoid a damn sweep. I think the series is more important from a tiebreaker standpoint than necessarily being up or down a game.    Hopefully some frustration was released in the 9th inning. One big hit and maybe this team relaxes some.
    • Brought this up in game thread. Send Povich down for an arm. Technically don’t need a 5th SP until SD series but based off how the Orioles like give guys an extra day they can start Irvin vs MIA.  Play a DH at home Mon July 30. Can call him back up then. Play 11 games before that DH. One start by Irvin vs MIA is worth an extra arm.    I know he needs to be added to the 40 but Mayo could come up for Kjerstad. Concussion IL is 7 days. You have 4 days off at the break. If not Mayo then obviously Stowers, it makes no sense to take any chances for losing Heston 3 games at most.
    • In fairness the pitching staff has given up 25 runs in the past four games, and that's obviously not including the 19 run hammering the A's delivered last weekend.  The rotation needs maybe just one good starter (though preferably two), but the bullpen is where this team has been quite vulnerable for some time and in danger of falling further.
    • Cowser is hitting .183 the last 3 months.  It kinda hard to justify him getting all the time but Mullins hasn’t been much better though he is hitting just under .300 the last 30 days so he been better more recently.
    • Right now, the regular OF should be Cowser, Kjerstad and Santander with Hays getting at bats vs lefties and Mullins playing a few games a week. Cowser and Kjerstad should play most of the week but don’t need to play everyday. (4-5 games a week basically) The best OF for October isn’t going to be Hays and Mullins playing much at all.
    • While I don't agree with a 'quick sell off', and the recent slump is not nearly drastic enough to support that sort of a move, I DO think we should sell off some of our MLB assets to 1) shore up our pitching and 2) open up opportunities for talented players that are currently blocked.  I certainly wouldn't trade ALL of those that were listed in the OP, but I'd be ok with trading a couple of them out of Mountcastle/Urias/Mateo/Mullins/Hays/Santander.  If I had my way, I'd trade a couple of them for the best minor league pitching I could get to help us in the future AND trade some of the position players that won't be moving up even after trading the MLB players for some MLB pitching right now.  Shore up the team today by adding to the current MLB pitching staff AND add some arms to the minors to help in the future as well.  It's not going to happen, I don't think, but that's what I'd like to see personally.
