If you take out pitching, them you have to add PAs, SBs, and defensive metrics too (at least not the negative of being a DH).  I don't know how far up on the "top X of Barry Bonds" meme, but it moves the needle.  No whining here about Bonds/PED.  Just recognizing the different eras of Bonds' career.  And giving more realistic credit in the hypothetical of Ohtani not pitching.

Jesse Barfield floor defensively IMO.  And even if jumps and route running are suspect (and.maybe they aren't) he has speed to cover.

Ohtani with 6 HR in his last 6 games.   He and Betts go back-to-back in the bottom of the ninth to win.   Ohtani is a once in a lifetime talent.   Dodgers going Ohtani, Betts, Freeman at the top of the lineup isn't fair.   They are firing on all cylinders.   Meanwhile,  my team.......

So I guess Ohtani decided he was bored this year since he wasn’t pitching or playing the field, and decided to steal bases just to have something else to do besides hit.

This week I kind of picture Andrew Friedman massaging his temples and maybe putting his head between his knees to help with nausea at this high volume of SB attempts.

Those running mitts are better than ever probably at protecting a hitter's hands.

Manny challenging him tonight will start right around when our glorified exhibition game ends, both on TBS looks like.

Does Ohtani ever slide hands first?   All the highlights I see he has a perfect feet first popup slide that gets to the base quickly, never overslides it by even an inch, just absolutely perfect fundamental slide.

That seems right from my few impressions, but I was joking more in the general sense.

Tanner Scott, closing in on big riches, just won his first matchup with him.    TBS broadcast had the detail Scott leads MLB in Games Pitched since the deadline, as one might expect with a rented ace.

Ohtani and the Dodgers finding AJ Preller's pitchers a little tougher than Vidal Brujan and miscellaneous other Marlins and Rockies.

Finally getting to watch a couple of his games in some detail, I can report he probably doesn't slide head first much.

At least, as a baserunner, he doesn't wear a mitt as our guys do.    Looks like a lighter thumb guard kind of thing, but fingers are free.

I missed a slide test because the base he just stole was standing up, his MLB best 33rd in a row without being caught.

Ohtani v. Cease 3 times was good to get to see, and LAD and SDP playing another great game of baseball as a kid from Baltimore and Manny try to push the world's greatest talent collection.

Dodgers might have lost their (ancient) shortstop to a muscle strain while base running.    He couldn't go 1st to home on an Ohtani double that might have been a triple if he had been able to do so.
