It’s annoying that in something as insignificant as the rule 5 draft that the organization actually got worse today.

It likely doesn’t matter in the long run and hopefully we get our guys back but this just wasn’t good by Elias.

I don't think we have better talent now then before the draft. Interesting that Estevez was widely speculated in many of the rule 5 articles and wasn't taken. 13 0f the 16 players selected were pitchers

So you’ve already made that judgment?    I’ve been busy and haven’t studied the two guys we acquired.    I was very disappointed (certainly not shocked) that Pop got popped.  Fenter was passed over last year and so I was quite surprised he got picked this time around.    I like him but won’t lose any sleep over him (unless he turns out to be good, of course!).

Yes..there is very little to like about the Big Ben’s nephew..The other guy maybe is worth something but I would much rather have Pop than both of them.  He’s younger, and has a higher ceiling (neither of these guys will stick as a starter, so I’m judging that as a reliever prospect).

I like Fenter and would probably rather have him too but I wouldn’t have protected him and expect him to be back. I’m not upset about him.

By the way, how were the Rule 5 requirements to stay on the ML roster applied this year?    If you kept a guy on for all 60 games, was that considered a full year for Rule 5 purposes such that a team can send that player to the minors in 2021?     Also, normally a Rule 5 guy can spend some time on the DL and have rehab assignments but still exhaust the eligibility requirement if they spent at least 90 of 162 games on the ML roster. Was that reduced proportionately? If so, a player could have been on the roster for 34 of the 60 games and spent the rest of the time on the DL or in rehab.    Best year ever to draft a Rule 5 guy, if that’s how it worked.

You're a funny guy.  None of has a clue about the ledger sheet for today.  Most are reasonable enough to admit that.  Pop, Fenter, and the two guys we picked up are all wildcards.  You've already determined that Elias screwed up.  Both of the guys we picked up are 99.9% going to start out as relievers with the Orioles.  Watching someone get bent out of shape over the rule 5 draft does provide some entertainment value so thanks for that.  lol

Yes, I’m able to formulate an opinion based off of info at hand as opposed to being a sheep and just bowing to the Os at every turn.

Didnt you say Pop wouldn’t get picked?

Pop should have been protected.  He is someone that could have been selected and carried on the MLB roster all year by the current Os team. Doesn’t matter that he is replaceable, he is good enough to be worth a 40/26 man spot.

Considering we had Susac, Wynns, etc when the roster needed to be set not protecting him was stupid. I’m betting he’s a closer within the next couple of seasons

Pretty darn annoyed that we didn't protect Pop, whom I do not see coming back to us. The Marlins will almost certainly find a way to stash his power arm for a season's worth of games.

I will unironically REEEE if he ends up having the best MLB career of the players we received for Manny, which I don't think is too crazy to imagine happening, and we ended up letting him go for nothing.
