Orioles Farm System Rankings

Figured I would bring this to the main board to get more eyes.

Baseball America has ranked the O's system #7. Keith Law also released his rankings today and has the O's at #18 (lol).

Fangraphs and MLB pipeline should be releasing their rankings soon. I will update this post when they do. Links to both rankings are below.

#18 isn't so bad when you consider that Law doesn't rank any organization above #16 on principle

I have a subscription. He's basically saying a few things.

1. A lot of the talent we have was already here.
2. We didn't have a lot of assets to return high level prospects in trades.
3. He didn't like the Kjerstad draft (e.g., $ allocation). Doesn't say it, but must not think of Kjerstad that highly compared to other guys there.
4. Nothing from the international stuff is apparent yet.
5. Our player development isn't really apparent yet.

He's basically saying he's Missouri. He won't rank us until the players show him. He expects player development to start paying dividends to where we have more good prospects coming from average profiles, so the arrow is pointing up.

He still has Kjerstad in the top 75. He still has 4 O's in the top 100 and Adley in the top 6. He's similarly low on Seattle and Detroit despite having many of their prospects ranked very high. It's a strange list and I really think he has a source that feeds him significantly less rosy reports on O's prospects than others get. He's lower on our prospects (including Adley) than every other publication and I think he just penalizes the system as a whole for not having international prospects. He doesn't grade the Orioles system on what they have, instead he grades them on what they don't have.

So a lot was already here... and we sucked...(bottom third)

And now he ranks us on THOSE players? Not anything we have drafted lately?

Yeah, it might be the MO Show Me State mentality. Or he might just be a Orioles hater.

YOU make the call!

I am interested in subscribing to Baseball America.  Anyone aware of any discount codes?

I don’t think Fangraphs will be anytime soon.   They are doing their team by team breakdowns now, but only releasing one every few days and they’ve only gone through 8 of the 30 teams.   Last year they didn’t finish until June.

He released his top-20 organizational rankings and is still bizarrely high on Adam Hall. In generally, his whole rankings feel like they're intentionally way different than everyone else to the point that he's trying to be controversial to sell his product or so that when he is the only one right on something he can shout it from the mountains even if he's the only one wrong on more things.

That is where I am at.
