Today 2pm in Boston:  46,   cloudy, 16 mph wind

Tomorrow  2pm in Boston   43, partly cloudy, 11 mph wind

NO rain in the forecast for either day.

Field might be waterlogged though.   I don’t think it drains as well as OPACY.

I’m slightly disappointed, but I’d just as soon have a game tomorrow rather than playing today and then having an off day.

It is raining right now in Boston and has been for the last 24 hours.

It's supposed to stop in the next few hours

Weather.com says raining right now, and it's chance of rain for various hour time blocks are:

10:00 67%

11:00 17%

Noon 14%

1PM 25%

2PM 23%

3PM 5%

4PM 17%

5PM 24%

So 24 hours of constant rain saturating the field, may or may not stop by gametime.   Meanwhile, absolutely no rain in the forecast tomorrow.

Sounds like a reasonable decision to me.

Yeah, it probably is reasonable... but what a drag. I was ready and waiting. It’s like coming down on Christmas morning as a kid and being told you can’t open any presents until the 26th. I will watch some other games, I guess, but that’s still like watching other kids open their presents.

Sorry,  can't remember a game being called because of clouds.

I guess Crash Davis left the sprinkler on.

Its raining there right now and has been for most of the last 24 hours.   But don't let the facts spoil your rant.

The infield is covered.   The rain is supposed to stop by 11 am  and there is a 14-18 mph wind which should dry the grass.   Face it.  They called the game because of clouds.

How do you figure?

I should clarify if they wanted to bring Means back on normal rest it pushes 5th starter up a day.

If they were cute about it they could have saved one start from a 5th starter if they wanted to do that during first 3 weeks of season.

I’m pretty sure I think it was 97 the Orioles canceled Opening Day. It was sunny and real windy. I was off work that day and somebody told me and I thought they were lying. Canceled for wind.

And ... here it is. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1997/04/02/high-winds-make-orioles-opening-day-a-day-late/f4ae082b-b561-43e1-9c5e-b76d03e0ab39/

I don't think they were planning on doing that.   Means was always going to go Wednesday in New York.   That is why Harvey is likely the starter in the home opener.

To be honest I had not checked what they were doing. Either way Harvey would have been on 4 days rest and start the opener.

The Orioles beat the Royals on Opening Day in 1997. Just looked up box score. I remembered they won and who it’s was against.

The losing pitcher that day for KC became a future Orioles player years later.

Who was it? I never would have got it.

So, it doesn’t rain in the south or west of the east coast?

It’s not 25 degrees.

Seattle might have rain but they aren’t usually frigid.

I apologize for assuming that most people would understand that in April in the north it is usually still very cold and in April in the south it is usually not nearly as cold.

    • Urias looks pretty cooked too though, and he's not providing the kind of defensive flexibility that Mateo is, and he doesn't have very good splits for platooning.  At least for 2023 and 2024 Mateo has had good platoon splits.
    • SSS but Holliday was playing incredible defense after like the first game or two when he seemed to have some jitters.  He had +3 OAA in a very short span.  Mateo has looked a little awkward at 2nd to be honest, and he's not the best at making the double play turn.
    • Hoping for a speedy recovery. That all happened fast. Not my initial impression reading the write up.
    • McCann looks cooked but he's in his last year and our options at backup C aren't great unless we're willing to trade for one.  But I'm not giving up a lot for a backup C.   I'd like to find a replacement for Urias.  He didn't look great last year and he's being thrust into a role that he's not really cut out for right now.  I don't think he's getting the 2022 magic back.  Maybe Westburg can go to 3rd full time and one of our 5 AAA 2nd basemen can work in with Mateo at 2nd.
    • I quoted myself, because I wanted to share something with you all.  I have memory issues.  Nothing full blown or anything, but I don't recall things nearly as well as I once did.  I mention this because it occurred to me that I posted a very similar thing about McCann last year, and he performed notably better in the 2nd half.  At least I believe so.   It's not that I feel I'm exactly wrong about McCann, but rather that he showed himself to be better just last season and could do so again.  I hope so. Memory issues are nothing to be ashamed of, though I'd be pretending if it didn't bother me.  I've been dealing with this for maybe five years or so, though it gets worse every year.  At 59, that's younger than most that have such issues.   I'm sure in a forum as populated as this one, there could be others going through what I am.  It is what it is... it's life, and I hope you're all doing your best with it.
    • Estrada and Tejada both continued their recent surges today.  Estrada was 2 for 4 with a double, while Tejada was 3 for 3  with a homer.  Tejada has his OPS up to .737, not bad for a league where .654 is average.  Estrada is at .628 and climbing.
    • Jeff Tackett was also part of the single-worst baserunning display I've seen in my entire life.  No exaggeration.  I was at the game with a friend who was at her first baseball game ever, and she asked me what was going on.  I still have no idea. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1993/04/18/three-man-jam-at-third-costs-the-orioles-7-5/7eb4c3d6-545f-481a-89f4-9bc0036ad89a/
