Adley Rutschman 2021

It didn't really seem like he was dominating until the last week or so.

If we could assume he will be with us for his entire career, perhaps moving him up this year would have been OK. If.not, I'd much rather have the 2028 Adley rather than the 2021 version.

Who doesn't like 30 year old catchers earning arb 3(4?) money?

That of course is assuming he's even under team control in 2028, what with the new CBA and everything.  Would be hilarious for Elias to do all this work and have players hit FA at 28.

I hope he's Bench or Pudge and stays with us for his entire Hall of Fame career. I still don't think one year on this side of career matters, especially on this team. Maybe this year at Bowie/Norfolk helps. He's having some experience with failure with his slow start.

I'm of the opinion that you improve more with adversity than you do dominating inferior competition.

So does this mean that Mountcastle will be playing like an All-Star in the second half of this year, or do we have to wait until next season?

Sure.

Folks pay to see games.  Need players for them to watch.

I've been over this before.  Some players need the minor league experience and some don't.  I think the really talented players can effectively learn at the ML level.

I would "rush" talented players, particularly position players to the majors if they would agree to reasonable long term deals.

I would be willing to sign Gunnar to a 10 year deal and bring him up tomorrow to learn in the majors.  He'd suck this year, he'd probably suck next year.  By 2023 he'd be a better player for it.

You get better faster from adversity.  Assuming you have the drive to overcome it.

Can you cite any player in any organization who has been developed in this fashion?

Nope.

But, back in the reserve clause day you would see guys up very young and learning on the job.

I honestly think this is the bold type of action a team like the Orioles need to take.

I get thinking out of the box, but I don't think the baseball industry at large is going to adopt CoC's developmental model anytime soon.

I don't think so either.

It is also very possible that the players in question would want more guaranteed money than the team would feel comfortable paying.

But jeez, if you hit on a couple of these deals, it would be HUGE.

Three walks and a single tonight in five PA.   His slash line is now .246/.441/.464.

After striking out 11 times in his first 29 PA, Rutschman has struck out only 8 times in his last 64 PA.    In that same stretch, he’s walked 18 times.

It’s interesting that he’s never been truly hot with the bat this month, and yet he has a .441 OBP and a .905 OPS.    If he ever does get hot, watch out!

Boom!  .293/.465/.573.
